the AFL need to step in and help the club

it is paramount to have at least one decent Qld side at any one time until the game is established in the state

Serious question, but why do we need to establish football in the state in the first place? Why Queensland, and not Tasmania instead?

I said it in one of the other "brisbane are shit" threads currently on the mb, but priority picks aren't going to help when your coach is garbage.

$$$.

The AFL could start by giving them an easier draw first.
Agreed.

Wouldn't it make sense to give the reigning premiers the hardest draw and then work your way down the ladder so that the wooden spooners get the easiest draw:eek:

That's the only advantage teams should get IMO.

North Melbourne, a team who played off in consecutive Preliminary Finals gets the easy path during the season when they should've been delt a hard fixture. You can probably put Sydney in the same boat too.

I don't know what the Lions did to piss off the AFL headquarters, but that is a really poor f*** up by the AFL to give them such a difficult draw.

Despite Fremantle finishing first after the 2015 H&A season and Brisbane finishing 17th, Fremantle and Brisbane faced four of the same teams in the first five rounds (Bulldogs, North, Gold Coast and West Coast). The only difference was that Fremantle also faced Carlton at home, while Brisbane faced Geelong away. Makes no sense to give the 17th placed side a more difficult start than the minor premiers.

Your kidding yourselves yes easy start but nightmare worst draw in years for whole second half of year you guys have one of the easiest draws of a top 8 team this year and won flag 3 in a row that's the real joke.

as for lions, new coach more money and priority pick. Need to be fixed ASAP AFL need to step in now

No they don't deserve it. You think the afl helped any victorian side while they were down?? No. They can cop it like all of us. Glad we are smashing them tonight. ******* loving every second .

No sense.
Freo finished 3rd after the GF so theoretically they should get the 3rd hardest draw while Brisbane should have gotten the 2nd easiest draw.

There's no perfect solution to the draw without everyone playing each other twice both home and away, which is impractical ofcourse. But the AFL have to start using some common sense!

Frankly if you were told your club would win 3 flags in a row then bottom out for the next decade and a half you would take it or nah?

Surely any success is a good thing even when it goes away, and can always live on the memory of coming as close as anyone to equalling the 4 in a row of Collingwood.
Yep.
Over a 20 year period and I was granted a wish to choose one of :
Option A, win 3 flags in a row and then win the next 17 wooden spoons
Option B, finish in finals every year and win 1 flag
I'm taking Option A every day of the week.
They don't deserve any extra concession, things will turn eventually

Merge the two clubs and start a team in Tassie that is a true football state. Every sporting venture that has dipped it's toes into the Gold Coast has ended up folding, Queensland simply can't support 2 clubs and never will

The AFL will want to be the first, regardless of the cost.

They need a new coach...

Leppa is useless. Worse than Voss. Worse than Neeld.

Get an experienced coach (no more favourite sons) and watch things turn around.

Let's not get extreme here

Yeah no shit.

And it's going to be a less profitable one if the AFL continue to finance clubs in unsustainable markets.

Anyway. Brisbane don't need priority picks. Their list is better than they are currently performing and that's on the coaching staff.

You must be insane.

Option B every day of the week.

Any team winning 17 Wooden Spoons in a row would be extinct at that point.

What's the point of having 3 Flags if your team doesn't exist?

Playing finals 20 years in a row would be Wins Wins Wins galore every year for two decades.

Club would be in a great position to launch an assault on the Flag in Year 21, Year 22 etc.

To put it another way, would you rather be a Fitzroy or St. Kilda supporter these days?

Making finals are meaningless if you don't win the big one. Every year there are 17 losers and every year my club doesn't win a flag I consider it a failure. Maybe 17 spoons in a row might be an extreme as you couldn't sustain it.
As for your question I'd choose Fitzroy, if you had embraced the merge/take over you would be enjoying a 3 peat, Saints have nothing.
Over the last 15 years who would you rather support, Brisbane with 3 flags and a few years of being crap or someone like the Crows who finish around the finals most years without winning one?

How do you increase player retention without appearing to give the club an advantage?

I'd love for the interstate sides to get a retention bonus payment but there would be riots in Melbourne.

Brisbane might need the AFL to spend some money and upgrade their facilities, build a big housing complex and allow the players to live there rent free etc.

Hide the bonuses.

Commercial reality dictates that the AFL have a presence in QLD. TV rights are boosted significantly with two teams in QLD. There is no way they would pull those numbers with Tassie replacing QLD.
