Do Brisbane need a priority pick?

Don't we all remember them!

8 or 9 wins in 2016 they were trumpeting - if I recall correctly.

It now seems that they would rather take the freebee road to recovery than to follow the model based on hard work and getting the right people in place at the club.

What are you still doing on here. Claimed Melbourne never had PPs, what's next, u gunna claim the doggies never had a couple either.

Go take a walk sunno.

You guys are off with the fairies aren't you?

I claimed that the Dees pleaded for a priority pick but were turned down by the AFL (all true)

Exactly my point.

The Dees have resurrected themselves - By Themselves.

New CEO
New Board
New Coaches
New Direction

My main hope for us is that we can achieve these things as independently as melbourne has.

What I always find incredulous in these discussions is people talking to lions supporters (or any supporter groups in hard situations) like we've made these mistakes, and should be punished for them. We're more outraged and upset than all of you combined that it has come to a stage where this topic is even being discussed. Its beyond reprehensible that the club we love has gotten to this stage and the work of successive administrations has led us to this stage and I as a lions supporter am absolutely livid.

The point is always made that the club got themselves into it and should get themselves out is a bit of misnomer as well given it was largely the work of previous administrations that see us where we are now. It is never a "club" that gets itself into trouble, it is the administration at the time. We've had a cleanout of the board and admin so we are working to try to right the wrongs. But we may need some assistance to help us along.

Personally I dont think PP is the biggest of our needs, so if we're prioritizing areas of assistance its not in my top few, but I sure wouldn't knock back a way to increase the talent level on our list. I also don't really subscribe to the whole wait until they sort things off the field before they get help on the field type of thinking. The two aren't mutually exclusive, they can be addressed at the same time, and in most cases doing this together will almost always have the largest positive affect and change things in the quickest timeframe, which will save dollars in the long term.

That's not necessarily the case. Tom Cutler, Darcy Gardiner, Ryan Lester, Daniel McStay, Tom Rockliff and Lewis Taylor are all Victorians who have - or will have - stayed longer than three years. I'm only including those who were drafted by the club from Victoria.
fair call. you have also recruited beams and tom bell back home to queensland. I just think that brisbane should just spend the next couple of years getting locals.

This is true of any club really, Freo have been in this position, Melbourne as well. Coincidentally mainly due to the same administration. Schwab and Connelly are swear words in Freo and Melbourne. Melbourne have had help from the AFL, so it's not inconceivable that Brisbane should get off field help from the AFL.

I don't think that Brisbane should get a PP, I do think that they should get the number one draft pick though.

Brisbane will be drafting the best available with their picks as has always been their policy. They will also be attempting to draft Academy prospects, but that remains an inexact science as it will depend where bids from other clubs come from.

Well that's that then, its probably the fairest and most sensible solution. Other rebuilding clubs shouldn't be penalized at the draft table, but hopefully that cash injection should help The Lions get a better coaching.staff (Woewodin is their reserves coach smh)

Thats not really a Brisbane specific solution, it's a league wide solution to cover the gap between the poor and rich club spending on development, we have a few more issues then that going on.

The article also goes on to say that the league views Prioirity picks for extraordinary or tragic events, how about losing our 22 year old CHB to post concussion.

Unfortunately, having talented young players retire prematurely because of injury isn't grounds to qualify for a PP.

Your playing list is okay, i think you just need a massive overhaul of your coaching and football departments, and if you're still rubbish next season, then maybe a PP is warranted.

As per the article, you don't think losing a player that way is an unpredictable tragic circumstance?
Which it states as a reason for a priority pick.

Our list lacks talent, compare it to any other clubs list. It's been that way for years. The line about try again next year was floated around last year, and will be the same again next year.

I think they do. Won't fix everything, but they do need a boost. Had a shocking draw to start the year, but are now getting flogged by a fairly average Collingwood side. Think if the AFL is serious about footy in QLD and the Lions don't have a dramatic turnaround between now and round 23, they need draft assistance.
No I don't think so. Some old fashioned hard work and dedication in many layers will work.
