Collingwood has contractual obligations to play 14 games at the MCG and 3 games at Marvel each (22 round) season.
That leaves 5 interstate games. If the AFL scheduled us to play at Geelong, that would mean one less interstate game.

hhahahaha imagine locking out 70000 supporters for a final at kitty litter park vs a melb based team
and yes youd still whinge because thats all you do
I care more about the Geelong members who can’t make it to the G for a friday night final more than I care about the Richmond supporters who sook about KPs dimensions and how unfair it is that they’re being locked out from a game they have no entitlement to attend (do you expect the interstate clubs to move games for your benefit? No, didn’t think so....)

Thats fine. geelong members are spread all over the country. not even close to all the members have plans on going to every final.

the whole point of a home final is to have home support advantage. Im happy to play west coast at the mcg for a home final. But a melbourne team should definately be placyed in geelong if we are the higher ranked team.

ps. Richmond supporters didnt complain when they had to play a final at the gabba. This is no different.
No different except the rule clearly states home state final, which is what you get.
Why do modern Geelong supporters always want a shortcut to their rare premierships, nobody used to complain in the 60's etc when your finals were at the G etc.

The ground is simply not fit for purpose as a finals venue, not even home and away to be honest.

Do you have a source of said contract? I find it very hard to believe that Collingwood honours a contract that dictates where their opponents play their home games

I can understand and accept home finals at the G. Think you'll find most Geelong fans (not Seeds obviously) can. But don't give us this ignorant not fit for home and away games bull shit. Is an equally (if not more) ridiculous position to take to us wanting 'home' finals against Melbourne sides in Geelong.

How is the ground not fit for purpose? It hosts 35 thousand people. We have had a prelim at a ground that hosts only 15 thousand a few years ago.

The state rule doesnt apply to gold coast who have been told they will get a home final at carrara. The state rule is stupid anyway. It should not exist and be a home city rule.

I'll just leave you with this. Notice how to compensate for not having an eastern wing, they've put the northern goals in the north western pocket, so the north eastern pocket is actually behind the goals. It's laughably amateurish.
One thing we can all agree on is that no game of professional football should be played on this ground ever again. Surely no club, no matter how small and pathetic would demand home games here.

If like most sports the AFL put some guidelines out about the size and shape of grounds Goombah would not fit the bill, simple, should be bulldozed it is not an oval.

As for finals get a decent ground I don't recall finals being played at Moorabbin etc when everyone had there own ground too small, stop trying to gain an unfair advantage, stick to the rules as they have always been.

Um wtf. The goals are in the centre aligned with the cricket pitch as shown in the photo you are posting.

Ironically you do realise the mcg goal posts have been moved 20 metres to the side from where they were originally right?

It‘s a terrific ground- love going down there. Sounds like some of you should actually try it-you’ll find you enjoy it. Close to the action, real football noises, great views of the action. Should be more like it and it’s a pity other clubs gave up their grounds. I’d be happy to be still going to Western Oval, Princes Park, heck even Moorabbin and so forth.

Good to see you ignore fair bit of my post and again proved your self to be full of nothing but stupid ignorant nonsense. I said I don't mind home finals at the G.

Kardinia Park is probably the closest thing to an oval that exists unlike the other near circles that are played on and has the best surface in the game. And as seen last week is plenty conducive to high standard football.

Hawthorn has contractual obligations for 11 games at the MCG each year (home/away) but normally get 9.
C9ntracts mean f-all for the AFL

It was a major component of the agreement for the MCG to give up its right to host a preliminary final every year to interstate grounds.

Small point, but there are guidelines: "The preferred playing size of a senior oval is 165m x 135m." -AFL Preferred Facilities Guidelines

Kardinia Park quite clearly falls short of meeting those guidelines. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be exemptions for existing venues, just as there are in other sports. Cricket's guidelines, for example, explicitly grant an exemption for venues that started hosting top-level matches before 2005.

But does it mean that venues which more closely follow the guidelines should be looked upon favourably when scheduling so-called marquee matches? I would say there's a reasonable argument to be had there.

That is a ridiculous preference that is a major cause of a lot of problems with todays game. The most ideal dimensions would by 190 metres by 110 metres. Less ball getting stuck on wings and harder to flood ends of the ground when they are longer.
