That is a ridiculous preference that is a major cause of a lot of problems with todays game. The most ideal dimensions would by 190 metres by 110 metres. Less ball getting stuck on wings and harder to flood ends of the ground when they are longer.
Yeah they’ve got two of them at Melbourne airport, we can give that a go if you want

I care more about the Geelong members who can’t make it to the G for a friday night final more than I care about the Richmond supporters who sook about KPs dimensions and how unfair it is that they’re being locked out from a game they have no entitlement to attend (do you expect the interstate clubs to move games for your benefit? No, didn’t think so....)

It's an hour on the train from Geelong. Do you all knock off at 7pm or something? Most people at the MCG would have travelled roughly the same amount of time. It's the lamest of excuses.

Come walk in the shoes of someone who works or goes to school in Geelong. You'll see it's not as simple as it sounds

It‘s a terrific ground- love going down there. Sounds like some of you should actually try it-you’ll find you enjoy it. Close to the action, real football noises, great views of the action. Should be more like it and it’s a pity other clubs gave up their grounds. I’d be happy to be still going to Western Oval, Princes Park, heck even Moorabbin and so forth.

I used to really like going there prior to the redevelopment. The Ablett terrace is too flat, a bit like the old SCG setup. The old standing areas were great.

Explain it to us then. Why is it difficult for a schoolkid or worker to go to a 7.50 pm Friday night final at the 'G? Most jobs knockoff by 5pm on a Friday, and flexible hours are now commonplace.

Work in the Geelong CBD til 5.30pm. Go home to Armstrong Creek, pick up the kids (or get changed or whatever). Now it's 6.15pm, drive to Waurn Ponds station, next train leaves at 6.45pm. Train takes 1 hour 15min (taken from the timetable). change trains at spencer st, change trains at flinders st. Now it's 8.15pm and I'm standing on the platform at Richmond station and it's QT. (or 7.45pm if I finished work at 5pm)

Is it doable, yes? Is it manageable? Debatable.

I can think of a number of ways of dealing with that scenario. Depends how keen you are, I guess.

And a tip: don't go to Richmond Station. Jump on the train to Jolimont at Spencer St. Straight there and it's literally a 2 min walk to the G.

I'm not being smart. I actually don't get it. I've taken days off work to go to interstate games. If Richmond played a final in space, I'd be on the phone to Tesla or Branson.

Not everyone is an MCC member. Jolimont or Richmond doesn't make a huge difference when going to gate 5/6/7

Not everyone has the ability to take time off work, or has bosses who allow "flextime". The VLine is packed from 4pm onwards, not all fans fit into these categories. But there are a lot of fans that live in the outer reaches (Colac, Surf Coast, Queenscliff) that could easily attend a friday night game in Geelong, but it's much more difficult in Melbourne. Getting home at 1 or 2am (you may think it's hyperbole, but it's anecdotal) sucks.

Complains that not everyone is an MCC member & then references the AFL members gates (6 & 7).

The irony is strong in this one....

Absolutely no problem if the same rules are applied to other teams who are forced to play home games elsewhere. Actually don't mind watching games there, although would be tough to get a seat when the bigger Melbourne clubs play.

I wonder if the club truly want all games there or just saying it knowing it won't happen so they appease their members and their renowned whinging.

I'm fairly confident in saying that the club does want to play all our home matches in Geelong, seeing as it is our home ground in our city, and we make far more from home matches in Geelong than we do at the MCG

That’s great for you mate.
Hypothetically if I lived in Geelong in my current life circumstances, I a) wouldn’t be able to afford to take a day off, b) wouldn’t probably be able to afford the tickets and the food and travel costs more than once or twice a year, and c) would be relying on my ex coming to the party re. The kids either letting me take them when I want to, or leaving them with her when I want to.

For many people life is not nearly as simple as saying ‘my team is playing at this venue at this time, I will be able to watch.’

The result tonight clearly shows why Geelong should be hosting every home game at Kardinia Park. They are the only team in the AFL that are forced to play home games outside of their home city. It's farcical.

They're also the only team in the league who has the double whammy advantage of getting to play their home games at a suburban home ground but getting to play half of their away games only a short drive down the road at grounds where they play regularly. No other team in the league gets that deal. On the rare occasion where that unique advantage turns into a disadvantage, they can suck it up as far as I'm concerned.

You're the only Victorian team that even has their own home ground.

8 non-Victorian teams: 10 genuine home games, 10 genuine away games, two neutral games

9 Melbourne teams: 6 or so genuine home games, 6 or so genuine away games, 10 or so neutral games

Every other team in the league has a fair balance. Every time Geelong plays a Victorian team at Kardinia Park it throws this balance off.

And they’re also the only team that is forced to play home games at the opposition’s home but not their own.

Might want to let Collingwood know that they weren't "forced" to play a home game at Marvel Stadium against North Melbourne in Round 15 last season.

Most Victorian teams do this. Look at this weekend's fixture. Essendon v Melbourne at the MCG. Hawthorn host North at Marvel in Round 5.

So it’s happened what, a couple of times across the rest of the competition.

What we should do is go back in time, re-settle geelong in the heart of Melbourne and make it more geographically viable
