interesting to read the below quotes over the weekend. As a cats fan i want my coach to come out like pagan has, but in most articles bomber is nearly resigned to his fate, that this will be his last year. Just like to hear fellow cats supporters thoughts.

bomber goes out in the press and says " its just a job, if i lose it i will do somethign else "
pagan same question " i want the job, this job is my career, this is what i love doing "

He has been criticised for being too emotional, lambasted for being too relaxed. He can't win.

His job is on the line, a poor season will see him gone at seasons end. So I am willing to let him approach the season as he wants, be relaxed, do it his own way so he feels he has the greatest chance of success.

Robert Walls for one seems to think that every coach has to be screaming obscenties if a team misses a shot. I disagree - frankly, I favour the prospect of a coach keeping it together.

It is possible to be hard without turning all David Parkin. He doesn't really demand respect like many if the top coaches do. More importantly, he doesn't seem to have the self belief to pass on to the players.

I would prefer a coach in control of his emotions over a screaming idiot (= Walls) any day. However, I would like to see some semblance of annoyance after losses. But he hasn't cared about losing in 7 years so I can't see it changing this season.

when i said passion i meant passion to coach the GFC not wheather he rants and raves at the players. i thought it was a good example of 2 differnet coaches stating what the job means to them. Fair enough thompson has said he is more releaxed, but the answer should be he wants to do everything possible for the club to have a good year, therfore keep his job. not go out and look for another job.

Usually coaches attitudes and beliefs are reflected in how a team plays.

Geelong did not play with passion on Sunday and clearly Bomber is not showing any.

I want to see some passion. Players should be giving their left nut to play for Geelong, i know i would. We deserve better than last week.

I will have walls and parkin anyday they both have won premierships!!!!!!!
I couldn't care less what they do just do it!
You summed it up perfectly between the 2 coaches.
I could not believe reading that from Bumber, explains everything.
They get big money for big commitment and Bigger passion this isn't just a job @ 50,000 a year that you swap around.

Mark Thompson should not be coaching Geelong this year. after all he said regarding the end of last year's review and his attitude and approach this year....Who would you like to see coach of our team? Anyone

The fact of the matter is this. Thompson is on around $400k per season as coach, with his contract ending at the conclusion of season 2007. Geelong would have let him go at the end of last year if it wasn't going to cost them 400k + the cost of a new coach. Grand Final appearance, Thompson stays, anything else he's gone.... in other words he's gone.

I think Bomber looks a little emotionless at times and really he is likely not to be there in 2008 unless we have a cracker of a year and he even wants to be. I feel that if Bomber were replaced an experienced assistant like a Longmire, Sumich, Mckenna would go well or even Cressa.

I think Longmire would be a great replace. I believe Geelong would suit a game plan like Sydney's and Longmire may bring that style to the Cats. Ross Lyon did it with St Kilda and we have a similar list to them.
Plus, it would be good having a coach whose played forward rather than all backs. It may help with the development of our forwards.

True there , Longmire would be great
The other one is Guy McKenna . I hear he is in line also for a coaching job soon

Longmire, yes would be not bad, but already going to Gold Coast with Roo's...that leaves who? we need someone that can put in PASSION, DESIRE and willing to win! someone passionate for the club...G.Hocking? M.Turner...I like Turner, comentator on K-Rock for a few years now, seen the players play for 22 weeks in the year ,every year, even walked out off the comentary box after Geelong lost (not sure who) at home in disgust... about time these players feel the roth....some-one that takes no crap, Cressa won't be it-remember what Scarlo said last year!! About time the dog wag's the tail rather than the tail wag's the dog...any thoughts guy's??

b4 Turner, I would love to see Voss...would be a great coach...only thing is, why would he leave television committments at $500K+for stress and heartache with us...

look at Scwab though - didn't get him very far (Scwab almost killed himself from too much 'passion' didn't he ;)). And compare that to Worsfold, or Craig.
I don't have a problem at all with Bomber saying it's just a job, because that is all it is in the end. Doesn't mean he has any less passion, desire or whatever to achieve, just that he's level headed and realistic. Perhaps he's just saying that "it's just a job" when looking at the whole picture of life? Which of course is the way it should be imo - family, happiness, health and other things are all higher on the list for me over my work - which is work I love doing by the way, but would give it up for the other things to come first, because in the end it is "just a job".

I have a lot of time for Vossy too. But he's untried and with only a few exceptions they take time to develop. Bomber was largely untried, but was predicted to be a ready made coach and, by his own admission, said he was on a learning curve for the first few years. Some might say he still is.;)

Voss would be a risk. Maybe an assistant coach. I'd go for someone like Bond from the Bullies. Apparently he was a close second to Lyon for the Saints job, despite all the hype about Longmire. And he's been an assistant under arguably the best tactical coach for some time. And Eade rates him. He'd be my first choice for 2008.

Longmire will be at Kanga's in 2008, if not before...GFC, will have a new coach and committee next year, whom not sure yet, but it will have be some-one to lead the cat's forward for the next 5-8 years with youth. Still like Turner, did work with Western Jet's (youth) and Geelong Falcon's(youth) only downfall maybe a bit to passionate. Another name to drop in the hat is,Bew's or Barry Mitchell. Time will tell

M Voss untried in coaching at AFL level, no thanks.
M Harvey may be waiting for Freo to fail.
J Longmire odds on for the Kangas
M Turner could be? not sure if he's had enough AFL exposure yet good with youth.
G McKenna may be waiting for Mick M to stand aside
B Mitchell No thanks
G Hocking coached at VSFL level for a while could be?
C Fagan Been at Melbourne for a while, may not be interested in the top job.
P Sumich don't know enough about what he has done some one may be able to help.
D Cresswell Taken over Tas Devils will be there for some time.
