Doggies you know

Sherman came to one of my gigs earlier this year to check out a band I was playing in at the time. Hes a top bloke and even passed on our cd to a few other Doggies players.

I think from a bulldog supporters point of view ive been pretty privliged really as i was lucky enough to grow up with Charlie Sutton's grandson Ben and had the pleasure of kick to kick with the great man after school on a fair few occasions. He taught me how to kick a drop kick/stab pass which when i look back now is one of the highlights of my life!

I went to primary school with Gary Dempsey's 2 daughters and would often stare up in amazement at this gigantic man every day after school when he came to pick his girls up. My mum went through primary school with Gary himself who apparently was the "stinky" kid!

To top that off(if possible!) my next door neighbour when i was growing up was the club doctor and i was lucky enough to spend most sunday mornings during the early 1980's in the clubrooms in amongst some of the greats like Dougy, Royal, Kennedy, Jennings, Templeton, Wheeler, etc. Great memories! Got to play the last hole at kooringal golf club with the great E.J Whitten, Ted Jnr and Ian Rickman as they were playing slow and asked me to join them for the last hole. And last but no least, i went to school with a guy who in my mind i have no doubt would be spoken about in the same manner as the great man Chris Grant if not for the tragic events of new years day 1990, Ronnie James. Still often wonder if he might have been the missing link in 1997 that managed to kick that elusive goal in the prelim. Oh and my cousin is married to Nigel Kelletts sister. Does that count as related??? :p

Pretty good mates with a few of the boys through work! Speak pretty often with Easton Wood, Liam Jones & Vez.

Also used to speak to Callan Ward (yes i knew he was leaving mid season) & Sam Reid until they moved to GWS

Having seen Sherman out and about I must say he does come across as a nice bloke, which is why the incident last year came across as a real surprise.

Have met a few players in various contexts over the years but wouldn't say I 'know' any of them. Most have come across as decent blokes, which is nice to know.

Found out earlier this year that I am second-cousin, twice-removed, to Roy Evans.

Roy was captain of the 1938 Footscray team, that made the finals for the first time in our history. Played for the Big V vs Western Australia in 1939 too...

Lol, it gave me a reason as to why I support this tragic club!!!

:)

My son played with Tory Dickson in the winning grand final for South Belgrave Under 10's...way back when ;)

I played for Wesburn as a kid and i remember under 11's we were undefeated all year and lost to South Belgrave by 2 points in the granny..........yeah we choked but that would have been ten years or so before your son played for them......

Know Clay and Wally, but only because I see them out very often and they buy me drinks cause theyre awesome :) (and because my 2 female best friends are stunners, and the boys rate themselves a lot.)

Don't know any dogs but my 2 great uncles are the Coventry's from Collingwood, so i give myself credit that i am not a toothless pies supporter when most of my family are ;) (dad grew up in Footscray and said he used to see Ted Whitten nearly every morning at his work and he was nothing but a true gentleman who would remember everyone's name and always say hello). My old man proposed to my mum on Grand Final day 1954 what a day to remember!

Isn't there a Collingwood support who claims to be a grandson of one of the Coventry's? You may know him.

I haven't seen him but it would be my cousin. They were my grandfather's brothers on my mums side. Sid and Gordon used to take my mum to the footy all the time when they finished playing.

Just my old man grew up in Footscray so he got me :)

wasnt there someone in the coventry family lineage that coached the dogs at some stage?

Grandfather had a bit to do with the 54 team. Not a player though.

Non bulldogs related - I'm a relative of Ricky Nixon. Always get a laugh out of people abusing him on here.
