Is it unsportsmanlike of me to still be on a high from Saturday and continue to revel in us beating the Tigers? The last time I saw the Bulldogs lose live was six years ago. I'm kinda used to seeing us winning now. The world has certainly changed.

Twenty eight years ago in June 1989 when I was living in Perth I saw us play the Eagles at the WACA. There I was dressed up from head to toe in red, white and blue, solidifying in the minds of those around me, whom I sat with at every Eagles game, that my nickname of "Footscray" was well justified. We lost 16.9 105 to 11.11 77. Peter Sumich kicked 8 goals, the bastard!

A win against the Eagles in Perth this weekend would somewhat pacify my lingering anger of that evening 28 years ago. Please pass on this message to the team. Thanks muchly.

Lol my god you didn't just say this??????

But another player can do this EVERY week and it's excused as development

Just gotta keep shaking my head and looking at champion data to help me de ode who played well.

Jong has gone past Libba this season, IMO.

Haha ok if that's what you think but I'm not going to even bother with that. It's just a farcical comment

Jong has more inside 50s, goal assists, score involvements, disposals, intercept possessions, marks (both contested and inside 50) and metres gained.

Libba has more tackles, rebound 50, contested possessions and clearances.

Libba has 2 goals. Jong has 1 goal.

Turnovers and disposal efficiency are pretty much identical.

Jong has 3 Ching votes; Libba has 2.3.

Not much between the two this season at all.

Even though you add IMO, I'm just not sure how you can say this. Stats have their place but the comparison has to be apples with apples. The intracacies/objectives of each players role has to be defined and there has to be some qualitative analysis. And in Libba's case, to borrow a cricket analogy, form is temporary class is permanent. There is no doubting his class but there is his form. I think the phrasing as you have it does both Libba and Jong a disservice.

Bear in mind we know what Libba's best looks like. He's down on form but that could be because he's carrying an injury or not totally switched on. He may be in a place (temporarily) where he needs a big occasion or challenge to flick the switch. But that's different to others having gone past him. Others might be in better or more consistent form in accordance with the roles assigned to them currently, but gone past him in the role that he plays? The real Libba will show up eventually and likely maintain his lofty standards once that point is reached.

Direct comparisons between our players, even though they may share aspects of the same role (stoppage players, forwards etc), are fraught because how many of them share the same attributes or are given exactly the same role. There are nuances, strengths and weaknesses.

Macrae 5-0 Bev
Dahlhaus 4-0 Hardwick
Grigg 3 Hardwick
Wood 3 Bev
Riewoldt 2-2 Hardwick/Bev
Boyd 1 Bev

Interesting Macrae and Riewoldt were ranked that high but not Smith or Dusty.

Well on this basis, it is impossible to compare any two players. I compared Jong and Libba after MD introduced the topic by once again shoehorning Jong into the conversation. But he doesn't want to engage in the debate, which is fair enough. I was looking forward to it, and my post was a bit mischievous in the sense I wanted to bait him into a debate about it (given he raised it to begin with).

I think one could make the case that Jong's form this season is superior, or at least equal, to that of Libba. This is not to detract from Libba's career, or his contribution to the club. This speaks for itself, and it goes without saying (but I will say it anyway so as to ensure I don't offend any of the precious souls on here) that Libba's career to date well exceeds Jong's, and I will back Libba in to be the better player in the future. But in the here and now, Libba is playing good average football and nothing more. Just because he is a proven performer, and a favourite son, doesn't change this IMO. He will no doubt improve, and return to his lofty heights.

This time it'll be me over there decked out in RW&B.

Dal wasn't close to putting it in front of someone, man. It was trash delivery. Genuinely trash. Even his 30m dinky passes as you've aptly named them aren't much good. They always have too much air. It wasn't that he was going for a hotspot, he was just bombing it as hard and high as he could in a panic. He's not a good kick at all, but we were all aware of that. My suggestion would be for Bev to do exactly what he's done with Jong and subtly mention that he should look to handball before kicking every time into 50. Rance was having a field day with it.

This is different though. Maybe he's injured or sore, I don't know. He wasn't right though. Murph had a couple of uncharacteristic turnovers, but Moyd was bad. Plain and simple.

yeah he had a bad night. I think when we are having these sort of 'kick it to the opposition interceptor every time' games, we probably should just grub it along the ground so nobody can mark it. It shows the value of Boyd or Cloke in the forward line not so much to mark and goal, although that would be nice, but just to bring the ball to ground.
