When I was a kid going to Richmond games my Mum's best friend used to hate this umpire; Don't ask me which one, it was the 90s, and used to shout out take your Footscray jumper off you idiot everytime he blew the whistle.
So we can assume that Footscray have been umpires pets since at least 1996.
