Marked down for handling the economy? What, turning over a couple of surpluses for the first time in a yonk? Maybe the country wants the Libs to run up debt whilst at the same time spending it on nothing worthwhile for most of the country?

Well ya see, the raging binfire that was runaway post-covid inflation that the entire developed world experienced was albo's fault, and if we'd just kept scum**** Morrison it woulda been fine..

Speaking of nothing worthwhile, potato head reckons he can get nucular up and running, when they can't even managed to dig a few tunnels for snowy 2.0 after 10 years and have gone about 6x over budget already.

LOL, ole Shulzenleft doesn't think Australia has borders.
Do you think our borders are plagued by a constant stream of illegal immigrants, to the point that it's one of the most important issues facing the country at the upcoming election?

yes because I went to buy a sausage roll for breakfast and the lady behind the counter had dark skin and an accent I could hardly understand her and at the petrol station the man had funny eyes and these gangs from Africa no wonder milk is so expensive

Yesterday Anthony Albanese while blasting the Opposition's nuclear energy proposals pointed out that all Australian Families would get a $300 Government rebate on their power bill thanks to Jim Chalmers' budget. Last month I switched my energy providers and went with the best value option I could find. That has not stooped my old energy retailer from sending me emails. On the same day that the Prime Minister told me I was getting $300 off my power bill my old energy retailer emailed me with the following information...

From 1 August 2024 your electricity prices will change. Based on your past usage, we estimate this will
increase your electricity bill by $362.00 per year.
Please note that this is an estimate only, the amount
includes GST, and your actual bills will vary depending on your usage.

I am not worried of course as I am no longer with Engie and I have has a twelve month contract with my new supplier on a rate that is much cheaper. I also get a further $200 sign on credit. Thank goodness for energymadeeasy.gov.au.

The issue is that on one hand the Government gives us $300 on the other hand the energy retailers add $362 to our electricity bill !!!!

There's a lot to dissect here. But a couple of points:

1. That new energy contract you signed up to with company X, while being lower than your existing rate with Engie, is unlikely to make you immune from future supply and/or usage tariff increases for the term of your contract.

2. Within days of signing up to your new contract there is a strong chance of your previous supplier contacting you to offer you the same or a better supply charge and tariff rates than your new supplier as well as a 'loyalty bonus payment' to match what your new supplier was promising you, if you stick with them.

Now my favourite rant:

Which just goes to show what utter BS this 'competitive energy market crap' is. The companies all know what each other is offering in the marketplace but work collaboratively to only match each other's 'best' prices for those customers who have the time, the understanding or capacity to game the market and threaten to switch.

Sure, that 'energymadeeasy' government website makes it 'easier' for customers to do their sums and find a better deal.

But what would be even feckin' easier would be legislation enforcing energy companies to provide the lowest possible contract for ALL customers for what is a basic commodity, rather than forcing them to go through the charade of price checking every feckin quarter to check they are getting the best deal and feel like they have got a great deal as a result.

What would have been even better was if a previous state government had not sold off an essential public asset to the highest bidder whose core goal is maximising profit/owner dividends . (check SA electricity prices with those paid by WA and Qld residents where electricity is still provided by state owned enterprises if you want to get a real shock).

Oh and btw this financial year Queensland households will get $1,000 off their electricity bills this financial year - on top of the $300 Federal Government energy rebate and no need to apply or go hunting through a feckin 'energymadefeckineasy' BS website (because their electricity provider is owned by the Qld taxpayer)

/Rant.

Yes, I accept the points you make but you can only go with the best deal you can find. As I posted my rates are locked in for 12 months so I do not expect a rise before late 2025. I went with AGL who were not the cheapest but I decided to stick with a company I knew rather than go with one of these pop up outfits. Fortunately in a two person house hold we do not use huge amounts of power and I have a solar system, not that it pays as much as it once did.

I agree that there is a need for some good old fashioned socialism and the fee structure has to be more consistent and more transparent. The only way to get this is through Government intervention.

It is absolutely obscene that in a country that has abundant supplies of natural gas Australia faces a gas shortage this winter and that electricity supplies may be affected in the Eastern States. To his credit Morrison did intervene a few years back to shore up Australia's gas reserves but we have heard nothing from Albanese on the subject. The ALP is a weak imitation of the worker first party it once was.

SA electricity prices are the highest in the nation and not by a small margin. The Canstar Blue comparison data as of October 2023 is as per the table below...

South Australians are paying almost 60% more for their electricity than people living in Canberra!

Immigration is fine. Illegal immigration, especially criminals, is not fine.
