It's not a choke if you're purely talking about performance on the day. It is a choke if you consider the season in general. They had barely any injuries all year, got the easiest fixture due to covid and blew a home prelim and their shot at playing in a GF without Victorian home ground advantage. They blew a once in a blue moon kind of opportunity there.

Nah, they went longer with Richmond than I thought they would. Lions choked, home ground advantage and failed to fire a shot after straight sets last year. That's a choke.

Port played reasonably well for 3 quarters but get obliterated in contest in the last quarter and butchered the ball by foot. That qualifies as a choke in my book. I don't think I'm being biased either because I apply the same logic to Craig's choked prelims back in the day.

Brisbane were decent for the first half but atrocious later on. They played worse than Port, were less composed. I already commented in other threads on how shit they were.

All in all, Brisbane played two bad quarters, Port played one. I agree that makes Brisbane's slightly worse on the spectrum of choke.

Port Adelaide are the only team in history to be top for the entire year and then not make the grand final.

That's a choke

Think they died inside during the GF after all the Walsh stuff, making it to the top of the mountain and then choking
My mum bought me a few autobiographies Roos, Bickley’s and Black Crow, the Andrew McLeod one.
I hope Tex writes one someday and let’s us know what his wild ride was like, from the inside.

I'd say that any team that is top for the first 18 rounds but fails to go on to make the GF has choked pretty badly

Did you see them as the best side in the competition at any point this year? Because tbh I didn't.

Mind you I also had Lions as the best side.. so what do I know.

You can take games in isolation.

Port were lucky to lose by a goal given the dominance of Richmond in the mid field.

That said, in the last 5 minutes of the game, after Ebert's massive effort, they had the motivation, opportunity and enough of the ball to go on to win it.

They rushed every disposal and couldn't get near their goals as a result. They had plenty of time to slow it right down, chip it around and move it slowly into a scoring position. Easier said than done though, especially in a game where your team has been flogged in the contests.
