I really ****ing hate ACLs. On top of the 12 months out, it’s a career killer. Not many players get back to where they were tracking after 2 of them. Got to feel for Carlton. They do so much wrong, but with Doc they smashed it out of the park and then this luck.

It’s hard to enjoy a death riding thread on the back of absolute garbage like this.

I like the way everyone is trying to pretend their first thought wasn't 2019s pick 1.

But would be devastating for the bloke, makes you wonder if they shouldn't have burdened him with the responsibility of being co-captain when he was recovering from an ACL, you don't want to put a bloke who should be 100% concentrating on his own fitness, under pressure to be setting an example for the younger blokes.

I think everyone who follows the AFL had that thought of how it impacts the trade. Doesn’t mean it was a positive reaction to the news.

I felt like a top 3 pick was a near lock. I don’t think this makes much difference to that. GC still favourites to the wooden spoon. St Kilda maybe less chance to slip to 17.

I’m not immune from being a bit heartless when it comes to an oppo player doing a hammy that might benefit us. But ACLs just devastate me. I think Andy Otten and how nobody ever deserves to have their destiny altered so drastically because of these shit ****ing things.

Shit news for carlton and docherty..

We’ve all be going on about Brad Crouch and hoping he makes it through this preseason and goes on to play a full season next year... but ive been more “worried” about brodie smith.. constantly praying we dont hear news that hes re-injured his knee... the risk is always there as docherty has now unfortunately found out.. even lever has had a setback in the last week..

And sam docherty is to carlton what brodie smith is to adelaide... both very important top 5 players for their respective clubs and both seriously missed out on the field in 2018..

Knee injuries are ****ed.

Didn't even get back to playing any games! Another innocuous event at pre-season training would just wreck you mentally, huge mental hurdle to overcome. Poor bloke, shattered for him.
There must have been a weakness in the graft .....surely you can do some medical testing / scanning for that ?

I think chances of repeat is something like 25% , and the more chance the earlier in the piece

So it’s just a cruel fact of life that can’t be really preprared for sometimes

They just said on the Carlton Website that he could have played last season ......so he's had an additional 3 months again & it still fails

Carlton put a lot of faith in Docherty playing this year .....his presence is all over the website :(

You have no idea, your bias won't allow you to analyze any situation with any merit

Try this:

I agree, Walsh is a conservative pick, I didn't rate him in the top 5 (long term projection), but I understand the pick given at this point in time we can't afford a bust.

We did trade aggressively to obtain Stocker, so again you contradict yourself with not having the balls, to force that trade. The trade as it stands, is Stocker + a mid to late 1st, for an early first. You will realise that value soon enough, come year's end, as the draft class does not have the calibre of the top 10 of this year

Betts and Sauce was from a past regime, move on and stop living in the past, or shall we discuss the players you have lost in the past? Gibbs was never going to be part of our next finals campaign, so trading him was the right move, short term pain, long term gains.

Then you try and justify Gallucci being a better player than SPS, because of the statistics of one game? Gallucci that is playing as the 6th banana in a forward line that should be playing finals, while SPS is playing in an underdeveloped midfield? Personally I rate Knight better than Gallucci and would have him, in a heartbeat

Maybe go reread what I wrote about Gallucci.
Second reread what you wrote. By your own admission SOS is s**t. He took someone who is barely top 5 at 1. Just like when he reached for Pickett, Marchbank and others. Then due to the fact they are clueless they over value a kid that throws away a 1st when there were so many options. Stocker trade was not ballsy or gutsy it was arrogance and stupidity.

Interesting Carlton and Saints overvalued their picks and then willing to throw away next years. Only had to watch the footage from both clubs to why both suck.

sad sad news

is it just me or does it seem a little early for Docherty to be involved in tackling drills?
Carlton on their website, said Docherty could have playeed the last few games .....so that's 3 months ago, obviously thought he was ok for full contact

Carlton will be fine.....I hear McGovern is pretty handy in the backline.

Shame for the injured players on a personal level.....but I don’t know them personally ...And all clubs have their bad luck injury stories.

I guess as this is a deathriding thread ....I’ts all apples ....we know too well how much it hurts having your elite running backman out for the year.

Simpson turns 34 next year too. Every chance they get pumped down back in 2019.
