If Wingard is off to the Dogs, that's Pick 7.

Package 6,7, 10 and Hombsch for 2 and 3 from GC.

That gets us Lukosius and Rankine.

How does that work on the Draft Calculator thingy?

Points wise GC lose about pick 70... but then when you add in Hombsch, they finish in front.

How about Wingard and 6 for 2 and 3? :p

They might for 6,7 and 10 when it's added to whatever they're getting for May and Martin??

Anything is possible. There's still a week of this madness to go. It's like a crazy zombie film compressed into one hour. :D

Almost dead level. But I don't think Gold Coast will trade either of their picks. But when am I ever right? :p

They have shown a tendency to value a wider spread of picks in the past. If the best talent at 2 and 3 is a genuine flight risk, they really are better off taking 6, 7 and 10 so as to hedge flight risk and talent.

Wow seems a lot to pay at first glance. See if I can try to pull this into credible ingredients before we pitchfork-and-charcoal the ham cheese and tomato toasties.

IMO, as it stands 6+10 are unlikely to get us any of Luko, Rankine or Rozee. Or Walsh or Smith. I just don't believe the King bros will go top 5. All sides above us want fast improvement evident on field next year and that screams exciting mids and HFF freaks not KPP. We could do some super ballsy all-eggs-in-one-basket 6+10 into 2 or 3 live trade which I don't like, but what do I know. Now just staying with 6+10 puts is in a great position to be confident of Hately + Hill. Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

4WIW drafting Hill probably signals the end or a tactical 1-year-only for Neade, and in line with that I wouldn't be surprised to see Amon off if a future later round pick is offered. Stockpiling future later round picks for our upcoming embarrassment of FS riches over the next two-three years makes good sense.

So NOW let's look at any potential but unlikely Wingard scenario separately. I'll just mention my crazy Wingard+Hombsch to GC for 2+3 idea again ;) Now that would be a breathtaking trade period.

They have talked a lot about locking in a matching pair like Lukosius and Rozee but who knows for sure what will play out?

The trouble is in the past they have had as wide a range of early draft picks as you could wish for and they have completely blown it. So maybe it's time for a coherent strategy of concentrated fire rather than a shotgun blast.

i think its important we make the first move before the Crows because now its made it a whole lot harder for them

quite possible freo were the only top 6 team willing to deal, and it was a bidding war.
we don't know what else freo were offered.

From Fremantle's perspective, prior to this trade, they only had Pick 6 and then Pick 80 as their first two picks, with Danyle Pearce, Lee Spurr and Michael Johnson all retiring, they were already short on draft picks, bit of a pickle when they're both rebuilding and trying to lure players like Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb to the club. Now with this trade, they're right back in the mix.

You've gotta keep perspective with our list numbers too, as it stands now, we only have three vacancies at the club: 38 players in 2018, Toumpas delisted, Polec and Pittard gone, Lycett signed, Houston promoted (safe assumption this is happening due to rookie list rules + the fact he's contracted for 2019), 37 senior listed players, three vacancies.

I'm not melting just yet, we've still got two first round picks. As it stands now, they could well be our only two picks and we may yet still promote Jarrod Lienert to the senior list too, and I think we should.

Our coach ken hinkley apparently said at b and f something about courage. Well i guess he had more than an inkling of what was poss the draft strategy. An element of risk and backing in and going for high rewards. Exciting as it unfolds. I was interested in davies saying that they were speaking to a number of players. Perhaps backfilling list like last year. To move up .... the status quo has no place. Any poster who maintained a shake up was required and is negative.......well what can you say. Still the wingard situation in the wings so who knows what the final position will be.

As good as that sounds, pretty sure Gold Coast won't do that.

Gold Coast must be loving all this attention for picks 2 and 3.

Is out strategy of "must get sa talent at all costs" shooting ourselves in the foot here?

We have never really struggled to retain interstate players. If we lose wingard, thats him and polec gone who are both SA boys. Thats would make our 2 most highly rated departures in the past 5 years being SA talent.

Would rather get three or four high quality players than 2 SA boys.

I wonder if the twins at 6 and 7 would be it. They would have to slide past picks 4, 5 - perhaps where Rozee and someone else not named King will be taken. The top end of this draft does appear to be tracking toward being the most rigged in history.

There is definitely something big planned.

They wanted to get this trade out of the way early.

I will wait until the trade period has finished before I start venting.

Whoohoo!

Like I said before, anything is possible. There's still a week to go.

I think this makes the most sense:

Keep Wingard.

Trade pick 6 and hombsch + for 3.

GC get luka with 2 who they’re balls deep in.
We get rankine at 3
GC still get rozee, lukas best mate at 6 who they would’ve taken at 3.
This makes a lot of sense. With Marshall ready to make the step up Lukosius is less important to us than Rankine. For me Rankine is the one.

according to the afl app we have pick 48, even though mitch cleary is reporting that we got pick 41 in return.

eitherway OP title is wrong mods

We traded out both our third round picks in the Polec and pick 6 trades. The return third round pick was next year's. We don't have a 2018 pick in the 40s.
