You guys seem to be going all in to get very early picks at the top of the draft this year, even if it means possibly paying overs along the way.

Would have thought it would be easier (and cheaper) to let Gold Coast/Brisbane draft the SA kids at the top of the draft and keep your focus on getting them back to SA after 2 years or so.

Of course it would have been easier, wiser, and would allow us to build our list in a more considered way.

But we're in a pissing competition with the Crows. Hinkley is too much of a dud coach to actually beat them at footy so now it's all about a name or two. Plus new toys allows Hinkley to hide behind youth for a couple of years and pleases the 'must have it now generation'.

The points don't make sense at the best of the time, but especially not when there's an uneven amount of picks. The points are meant to represent the career output of the pick, and in this case you are comparing the results from three list positions vs. the results of one list position. For example, according to the points system, it would be an even trade if we on-traded pick 6 for 45, 46, 47, 48, 49 and 50 - but nobody in their wildest dreams would think this is a good trade.

Only way that pick trade looks ok is if you take it that the top 7 this year are the equivalent of top 3 any other year. If you consider pick 6 as pick 3, it's a bit better.

I think the absolute best we will do is a pick each in the 50s for Amon and Hombsch.

I wouldn't be too fussed about that yet, purely due to our current list numbers, but it's possible we'll get a ~third round pick from Hawthorn for Amon

We've been around since 1870. Just not in the VFL's expanded league until 1997.

I legit thought we would bring in about 4 quality players, 2 mids and a couple of tall defenders, that sort of thing from this draft. Now im looking at our list and will remain in the fetal position until round 1 2022.
