Drafting Lukosius/Max King would scare the crap out of me but would also probably be more exciting to watch develop over Rankine/Rozee/Smith. Imagine Lukosius turns into a Pavlich/Riewoldt/Cameron, while King has the potential to be a Ben Brown/Dixon/Tippett

We won’t overlook Rankine. We will do the opposite and trade up to get him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us pull a move on the night with Gold Coast for pick 3. We would have had a chat with them when we were organising the Hombsch trade.

Still think we took unders for him... ;)

We defiantly did, losing May they had a big need for Hombsch. Hombsch should have been a part of a pick upgrade for 5 into 3 (if they do want Luko and Rozee 2 and 5 get them) the fact that we couldn’t work out a deal for 3 (possibly as a part of the Wingard trade) makes me think GC may not be willing to give it up.

I am very concerned with this from http://www.portadelaidefc.com.au/news/2018-10-23/in-the-mix-draft-pick-5 :

Pick 5
All the talk will be on the local prospects, but versatile Victorian key position player Ben King would be a nice addition to Port Adelaide’s list. King was named best afield against North Melbourne's VFL side earlier this year as a centre-half back but then switched forward, when he was an All-Australian after a strong championships for Vic Metro.
Around the mark: Connor Rozee, Izak Rankine, Max King

Not just because Rankine should be the first discussed, but that it talks about King's versatility forward and back. Meaning, going by what coaches have done in the past, he will be allowed to stagnate at the back. Trengove played his best games for us when he was given free reign but was all too often put in one place to do one thing and I can see King suffer the same fate. We've already got big players available and coming through in Dixon, Lycett, Ryder, Frampton and Hayes. Ken just needs to play them in the right places. What we need are people in the midfield who hit targets. But all the skill in the world means squat unless there is a route to goal.
Someone who in all likelihood will be used as a defender is not a priority to replace what we've lost.

This article isn’t from Port Adelaide though, its via the AFL site.

Phew, thanks. Didn't notice that. Still could be a bit of a worry if Port give credence to that point of view but at least it's not a direct reflection of how they're thinking, which was my biggest worry.

I can live with choosing Max King as a big key forward that could pair with Marshall long term wouldn't be the worst idea, but Ben King at 5 will have me melting. Our defence is young and we have enough key position coverage.

Id much rather us take a couple developing key defenders in the rookie draft, than a speculative pick in the top 5.

Regardless I have my fingers crossed for 3 gun midfielders with our 3 picks.

I have seriously gone off Rankine.

Local SA indigenous player that is mega skilled and oozing x-factor, putting out vibes that he doesn't want to go interstate! Ring any bells?

It does for me ... warning bells! I really hope we pick up Smith! Commitment and dedication out-trumps x-factor!

Wingard? One of our most talented players ever?

Wtf is this?

What's our "draft day" moment this draft?

Drafting Max King with 5 and Ben King is on the board at 10?

Trading up to get 2+6 go Luko at 2 and then rankine is there at 6?

Bidding at blakely at 5 and Sydney don't hear the bid and get timed out and we get him?

drafting only players sub 181 cm in rankine, hill and butters/McHenry

It's not as though we have history with overcompensating.

Is Michael Mummery still a chance to be drafted? His old highlights are ridiculous.
Smith has made it openly clear that he doesn't want to leave Vic. Family and Girlfriend will ensure he wont stay long.

Talented but is risk..

Most of the kids and their families would prefer to stay at home.

Look after him and his family. Give him a good football program.

It will probably work out.

If we are too scared to draft kids we might as well give up.

I'd be happy with either King or idealy Luko if he slipped. We are in a rebuild. Talls take longer than smalls to be 100% AFL ready. We have Marshall, Hayes and Dougal. 1 more elite tall and we can start looking at mids next year onwards with our 1st pick. We will bottom out next year and get a top 5 pick so best mid next year please.
