In hindsight I would still 100% of the time draft Wingard. We got some very very good years out of him and he netted us Burton. If we think Rankine is as good as everyone is saying he is then we need to pull the trigger regardless of his attitude
Yep.

If we got Burton alone for pick 6 it would probably be above average.

Add to that years of Chad plus pick 15 and its definitely a win.

Nothing wrong with X-factor indigenous players ... I really like the look of Ian Hill & hope we get him. Huge red flag over 18 y/o draftees that think they are so good they can put caveats on who takes them. Even Wingard has acknowledges that he probably will play better in Victoria out of his comfort zone. If Rankine has gone down that road as reported ... then he is a big avoid!

There are number of players that are of the quality of Rankine ... choose the best, not just because he is local!

Rankine has pretty said all the right things in the interviews I've seen. Still on the Smith train but if we take Rankine I'm happily sold on him as well.

Lukosius slides I'm hopping on that train very quickly. Everyone else can go to hell in a basket.

That is why you are not a recruiter! They look at more than 2 minutes of frickin' highlights! That is why we ended up with Wingard, GWS not interested in a stay-at-home sook. Thats why Rankin will not go at #1 to #4, even though he is good enough ... clubs will avoid. Hope we do too.

Rankine is 17 and his ability has been there for all to see at U18 National championships over 2 years and SANFL level throughout this year. That is not "2 minutes of freakin' highlights". I for one have seen him play at least 10 full games over the last two years. I consider him to be the best talent in this draft by a good margin- I am happy to pit my judgment against yours if, indeed, you have a different opinion. I suspect that you don't.

 You Wingard fan-boys just dont get it .. and you never will.

The Crowbots play Richmond in a GF. Everybody thinks they will win as they are the most disciplined vanilla outfit going around.

Who wins? Richmond. Who wins the Norm Smith? Dustin Martin- the loose cannon former pick 3 with questionable commitment (as a 17 yo) and character who matured as all 17 year olds do, who knuckled down and was unstoppable. Premierships are hard to win and getting a bunch of robots is not enough. You need match winners.

We had that with Wingard. We lost Wingard. If we are presented with the option on Rankine and pass- that is akin to saying we don't want to win a flag with this lot. Ken's mantra in 2013/14 was "big risk, big reward". Passing on Rankine at 5 has only one justification- "no risk". And "no risk" means "no reward".

I get why GC, Carlton and St. Kilda will pass on Rankine- young indigenous boy, a bit full of himself and , almost certainly, a major flight risk. But if we pass on Rankine, that's a solid gold admission that we don't trust our coaches, our leadership group, Paul Vandenberg and our indigenous program to keep a boy who, is currently (possibly) a little immature (ffs- he's 17!) but has no history of misdemeanours of any description, to keep this enormous talent on the path to fill his enormous potential.

Check my posting history- I have backed the current regime including Ken, all the way to the point that I have been accused of being an apologist.

But if we pass on Rankine, they (Ken, Boak, PVdB) will lose me. And the reason will be this- why should I back our current leadership when they will not back themselves?

Actually unless mistaken it was better than that.
Wingard and a future 3rd for Burton + 15 + 35 and a future 4th

I agree that we should take Rankine if he is available. I don't think Carlton would have but not because of whether he will stay but that all the talk is that they will take Walsh. Not sure if St Kilda would have that retention problem either. It's not the Melbourne clubs, even the low-placed ones that are having problems keeping players but GC would have that problem. But the whole thing may be moot if that talk of Adelaide trying to swap picks with St Kilda is not just waffle.

I know pick trading works in the states but there are also big losers. And I can see that happening here. There have been occasions of high pick busts and the draft is not as exact a science with Aussie Rules as it is with American football. Personally I'd much sooner have had the draft card we had after our trades without sending picks to Brisbane and Freo so that we could move up in the draft. Picks in all rounds along with 3 first round picks sounds much better to me than 1 early pick and 2 late first round picks. Especially if Boyd Woodcock goes into the draft. We can't waste a first round pick on him but I would expect him to go in the draft proper and not be available in the rookie draft. We could have also kept better picks for next years f/s.

What exactly don't I get? fortnite addict never disciplined for so called attitude and application problems?

**** and Swimming bruz
If you can prove to a vast majority of us that he wasn’t leaving next year or wasn’t himself instigating the trade this year then I’ll be in the why’d we do that camp. And just remember he was still contracted for 2019 so he had every right to see out his contract & not even god himself could forcibly move him on. That’s unless he’s being filmed snorting coke off ****.

Firstly i really hope we don't get any KPP with any top ten picks as history shows the risk is far too high. Exception being the SA lad. I was wondering peoples thoughts about perhaps trying to get another top ten pick by trading next years first and pick 15 this year.

I think they’ll do it although I’m not sure it’s the right thing to do.

What if he made it very clear in his interview he wants to play for Adelaide instead of port and the port recruiters think there are 6 other kids who they don't want to miss out on for that?
