It looks as though Essendon and Geelong actually played 4 draws at Windy Hill, in 1952, 1964, 1969 and 1987.
South Melbourne and Carlton also played in 4 draws at one venue, the Lake Oval, in 1914, 1921, 1952 and 1967.
Carlton and Essendon have played 4 draws at the MCG, in 1993, 2006, 2011 and 2014.

What do people think of the idea of playing both teams' songs after a draw? I think we get used to a particular sense of atmosphere when watching a game. When the final siren sounds we are used to hearing the winner's song and with a draw we do not get a song. When watching the end of a neutral game it can be interesting to observe the players' interactions and the way the crowd celebrate while the music plays, even with a one-sided affair. With a drawn game, why not play the home team's song first, just the once, and then the away team's song, again once only.

There is only one answer:

Is anyone able to advise whether finals are included in streaks without a draw?

The Bulldogs easily hold the longest active record of not having played in a draw. Between 1995 and 2008, the Bulldogs played in seven draws which worked out to be one draw every two seasons. They're approaching 400 games without a draw and their current drawless streak puts them #5 overall all time.

1. Adelaide 536 games between 1994 and 2017
2. Melbourne 462 games between between 1971 and 1992
3. Geelong 406 games between 1969 and 1987
4. Hawthorn 403 games between 1968 and 1985.
5. Bulldogs 391 games between 2008 and current ***

If finals aren't included in these streaks, then you need to deduct 22 games off their current streak (they'd still be #5 overall).

That's quite remarkable about the Bulldogs given that the team was frequently involved in draws in the 1990s and 2000s.

Also that last draw in 2008 - 19.16-130 to 20.10-130 against Richmond - is the second highest scoring drawn game in history. In the 2000s there were more higher scoring matches than the 2010s or even today, but such a big match aggregate was becoming rare even by the end of that decade which makes it stand out even more.

Relevant to the above posts, Peel Thunder today drew their first ever WAFL game, 28 years after their debut game in 1997. Somewhat ironically the draw 12.7-79 to 10.19-79 draw was against Claremont, the team Peel scored its first ever win against all those years ago. For the Tigers, it was their first draw since tying with Swan Districts back in 2010.

I am wondering if this 28-years by Peel is the longest time at high level football (AFL, SANFL, WAFL, VFL/VFA, Talent League, TFL) taken for a team to draw a game? Is there one longer? Or are there perhaps some Talent League teams still waiting for their first draw more than 30 years after this competition was established in 1992-1993?
