Here is a video of Sam's first (and so far only) game against Brisbane late in the season.

He was extremely impressive that day and a lot of Swans supporters are excited. From reports it looks like Longmire holds him in high regard and seems to be grooming him for a key position in the forward line.

Re: Games this year.
I think he will play no more then 5 and that will be because of injuries to other players (touch wood) or bad form of some other KPF. Correct me if I'm wrong ressies lovers but LJ and White are ahead of him in terms of development and experience.
Think with Goodes White and Johnston (my guess) not to mention TDL in the forward line it's too tall...

You forgot Bradshaw

Reid had shoulder surgery in the offseason so he may be behind the other players in terms of preseason training. Keep in mind that he is still very young (turned 19 a few weeks ago), especially for a key position player. He is still slight and needs to bulk up (despite his broad shoulders) and they will be wary playing him in many games against the big defenders of he AFL

One aspect of his game that was under question when he was drafted was his consistency within games. It was a pleasant surprise when he performed brilliantly across the season in the reserves despite being played in a variety of positions. He'll have to deal with the dreaded second year blues and the shoulder issue won't help. Johnston has been training very well but probably won't be expected to hold down a key role so soon. Expect to see Johnston as a half forward flank

In summary, I think there is a good chance that he may not play any senior games this year. He is still very much a long term prospect in the coaches' eyes.

Re: Sam Reid

Ahh I forgot about Bradshaw.
Looks like we have more depth then I remembered.

Re: Dream Team/Super Footy - Q&A

Right on! Who cares about super footy

I wouldn't be backing him to be a solid scorer like he was in '09 again this year. Doubtful where he will be playing exactly (though I expect him to be in the 22 somewhere) and definitely unlikely that he will be a ball winner across HB like he was in '09 when Malceski and Kennelly were each absent from the best 22. Last year Mal and Tadhg came back in and dominated across HB leaving Rhyce to be in limbo somewhat. His disposal deteriorated dreadfully and it was only a move forward and a couple of crucial goals that saved him from being dropped.

Will most likely be playing as a defensive forward/on ball tagger/small defender. I think tagging is where we will see him play most. Finished the year there and played well on/negated some very talented players (Hill, Murphy, Giansiracusa).

I wouldn't think so, he was drafted as a back up tall defender, and he would have C. Bolton, Grundy, LRT and Richards probably ahead of him. So would need 2 of those to get injured for game time. May get games here and there, but i doubt he'll play more than half the year.

Thanks for that mate, appreciated :thumbsu:

Yeh Goodes often starts slowly (although he is very fit this offseason, so we hear) so could be a good idea to wait until a few rounds into the year.

Lamb I don't expect to see much game time in the seniors. Probably will play mostly in the 2's to build his game up this year.

TBH it's a lot like Hewitt with the Aussie Open, every year he's in 'the shape of his life' 'the fittest he's ever been'. And then he just has the same start to the season.

I know I was proven wrong with similar comments about Malceski this time last year, but I just don't think Goodes, tiptoeing on the wrong side of 30, can improve his start to a season too much.

Last year was a touch different though considering he was playing mainly forward in a forward line that consisted of a dominant Bradshaw. Even then, he wasn't playing badly. He was doing his job pretty well. Certainly wasn't as dominant on games as he was when he moved back into the middle, but I doubt anyone realistically could have expected him to be.

I think, should he start in the middle from round 1 (as we have been told he will), he will start as well this year as he has for quite a few years.

After all, it's not all that often that Goodesy is genuinely ready to go from round 1 of the NAB.

With most sides player a is tearing the house down but in saying that Hanners is 2nd in our time trials and should be a certain starter for 2011. Jack is a certain starter but main concern is he may get tagging assignments again and stifle his score. However after the last few weeks he had in 2010 Horse would be mad to do that.

Ryan O'Keefe was a little inconsistent last year, but would he be worth a pick up this season?

Was hampered badly by groin and head injuries last year after about round 5 so those really affected him for the rest of the season. Roos kept him in the side as he could still play good roles for us at times but he was way down on his normal running power and overall production.

Has had groin surgery in the off season and is back close to full fitness from what I've heard. I think he'd be a good value pick, seems to be undervalued a bit (given he is back to full fitness this year).

hows Craig Bolton coming on after his injury ?

Slowly getting there. Hopes to be back for the beginning of the year, but nobody around these parts really knows what the deal with him is. We're all hoping for the best of course but I would probably steer clear of him, too much uncertainty surrounding him.

Ok thanks for the info :)
