I don't think they'll make it any lower than .05. There needs to be a balance. They just reduced the limit from .07 to .05 here and they are worried about the impact it will have on bars, restaurants and local business as people are too afriad to have a drink when they're out. As Cammo said, most accidents occur when people are well over the limit.

i would like too see statistics, i am sure most accidents are caused by fatigue, mobile phones (distractions) i think most accidents occur within 5km of home, it would be good if someone could pull up some statistics for fatality caused accidents.

I would but the amount of gore online is pathetic

Have never driven and drunk on the same night, and don't ever plan to unless I've barely had any. I've only even driven back the morning after once.

My limit is 7 beers, my reaction time might be slowed but im under the legal limit so yeah. under 2 hours 7 beers im good. Never go over 7 knowing thats my exact limit, probably not the best thing to have any beer before you drive but i know thats my limit, i wont bother driving if i have any more.

being pretty drunk and drive? on a farm yeah, i guess ive got the art downpact but the problem is reacting to things, unlike a few people i know i will always throw on a seatbelt because if i accidently roll the thing drunk im in a world of hurt. i absolutly killed an 89 camry because i had gone through 3/4ths a bottle of jacks and decided to take the car in a lot of land and do burnouts, going 90 down on my grandads horse farm this kangaroo jumps out infront of me

Absolutly killed the poor thing...the car that is it cost me about a grand and was a great burnout car. Imagine if it was a person i hit they would of not have lived. Ended up in jail for a few years and generally ****ed up quite a few peoples lives up,

You're a ****.

Yeah, I meant in most alcohol related accidents they'd be well over the limit. I'd also like to see stats on what causes accidents. I think alcohol would make up a relatively small percentage. Fatigue and general recklessness would be bigger issues I imagine.

Alcohol is the main cause of deaths on Australian roads. Road crash deaths and injuries are the second biggest source of alcohol-related death after liver cirrhosis. About one third of male motor vehicle deaths and over 10% of female deaths are due to alcohol. For pedestrians, alcohol accounts for around 40% of male and 17% of female deaths. Around half of these deaths are in those aged 15–24 years

Well you'd think wrong

Also what do you think is the cause for a lot of this "general recklessness"?

Thanks for chasing that up. I wasn't entirely wrong. 70% of accidents are non-alcohol related. It's just than when alcohol is involved the mortality rate really increases.

The aim of pretty much every road safety campaign is to reduce the road toll, so the mortality rate is what they are based on.

And a lot of this general recklessness you speak of is caused by alcohol consumption

No 30% is alcohol recklessness, the other 70% is not paying attention, fatigue, drugs, mobile phones etc

Nah, they could best be prevented by banning the use of automobiles altogether.

:thumbsu:

You might be onto something

Ban cars and

no more road fatalities
reduced greenhouse emissions
fall in obesity
etc

Unless your drinking lights, this statement is B.S.

I once drank three Hahn Superdrys in about 45-50 minutes driving home from work. Got breathod and came in bang on .05 and im a reasonably big bloke.
You absolute goose, double that time and you've drunk 6 beers in just under 2 hours which is probably smack bang on my limit as well, and your calling me a liar? granted you cant put them away like that in the first hour, but its not really a huge gap

That actually kind of annoyed me you just calling my statement BS, so here we go

At around my weight (100kg) if i had 7 standard beers the recognisable blood/alcohol level for anybody normal is assumed at 0.12. Sounds twice as much as the legal limit right?

Now Slash off depending on circumstances (food ect) at the least with no food or anything (just sitting and drinking) 0.01 every 40 minutes, now if i said 2 hours that brings me down to 0.09 at least. with we can assume is 0.03, making me about 0.09

your also talking to a guy who would go through about 6 coopers a day (drinking is awesome). However i play basketball with a guy who recently got fined and made to wait 15 minutes on the grass for another test, he only had 2 beers in an hour period and blew just over 0.05

is it so hard to believe i can go through 7 beers in 2 hours and blow 0.04 due to tolerance/size ? Making it legal for me to drive

I genuinely hope you crash into a pole and kill yourself, just so you won't kill anyone else.

Won't be his fault though. Probably sue the pub or bottlo' that served him the drinks.

Unlike the quoted poster I wouldn't want you to be hurt in an accident, a huge fine and loss of license would be enough

Both good options. Death was probably a bit extreme, but anything to get the **** off of the road.

Double three is six, not the seven beers you claim you can drink in less than two hours. And still be under the limit.

Given that after the first hour if you keep drinking, it takes longer for your body to get rid of alcohol.

I still say B.S.

My bad, what i should of typed is 7 beers in 2 hours, not under.

I just make a common rule for myself that I avoid a car if I have had any drinks. I'm an unlucky person sometimes, so knowing my luck I would just be a very small fraction over the limit when getting pulled over. I just put the car keys away for the night if I decide to have some drinks.

I think it's a little unfair to brand someone a criminal that's a fraction over the legal limit. In saying that, Drink driving is something that should be frowned upon. A car can be a very lethal weapon of choice.

Very interesting thread so far.

Never been in a crash on the roads, never even lost a demerit point in the 6 years i've been driving, Also never been drunk driving on roads either

Why u mad tho? I've never drunk more then 7 beers within 2 hours and drove, which Im under the legal limit of driving, therefore have done everything correct in accordance to society/police's requirements. It wont keep me up at night.

bit harsh to wish death, but your probably not a great person and somehow trying to impress people on the internet with your bluntness on the subject, Yawn
