I dont think people are actually gonna use that many trades in between rounds 3-11 as they have in the past. In fact im expecting far less otherwise your trading yourself to zero's which counteracts the points gained bu the upgrade in the first place.

So using 6 trades shouldnt be a worry as you should have plenty left coming into those rounds.

Im probably only looking at doing 4 upgrades to major premiums before the byes. Thats the way i see it right now.

Now I get ( with 3 trades thank god ).:
If you label them group 11, 12, 13.
Best result: round 11.
22 players , 8 in the bye. 8 group 11, 10 group 10, 12 group 13

Using 3 trades gives.
Round 12:
22 players, 8 in the bye. 11 group 11, 8 group 12 , 11 group 13.

Using 3 trades gives
Round 13: 11 group 11, 11 group 12, 8 group 13.

There are some different combinations, but to avoid any doughnuts it still involves every non bye player playing each game and using six trades.

Personally It will depend if there are trades there that I see value in making.

Anyone considering Brad Green this year? Don't laugh too loud, it's not a trick question! :p

Just not completely convinced whether he is finished as a premium forward based on last year alone. I realise he will be 31y when the season starts, but he did average 20+ possies per game every year since 2006. Had a 98DT average in '08 and 97DT average in 2010 when he played full seasons, mostly on the wing/HFF.

Last year he played deep forward and his numbers plummeted. Dropped to 14 possies per game and his DT average to 77. Melbourne's shocking entry into the f50 or lack there off didn't make things any easier tor Green. The added responsibility and pressure of the Captaincy may have also contributed to Green's shocking form and fall from super premium status. Personally I've never seen Green as a leader.

Without the Captaincy & a move further down the ground to the wing/HFF as suggested by Neeld last month, can Green bounce back to 20+ possies per game and a 90+ average this year or will he go even further down hill? He still looks quite fit (not Goodes fit) but I don't see a reason why he couldn't average 90-95 for they year with a role change that suits his game and strengths. @ 388k may be worth a punt or am I MAD?

Could belong in the unique thread.

You're braver than me, if you take him.

Hmm think you're right about that, don't think many will have him after last year. Will re-post in the Unique thread. :thumbsu:

Not brave at all mate. I'm trying to talk myself into it, but probably won't have the balls to lock him in for round one until I get a better look at what role he plays the next 2 weeks and what sort of form he shows...

In 2010 he played mainly as a deep forward aswell. Last year he played the same/similar role and just had a shit year, maybe due to age. I think hes past it and should be played off a half back flank if i was coach of melbourne. Push Grimes into the guts and let him explode as a player.

Melbourne have enough talent up front with Jurrah, M.Clark (now), resting ruck Martin, Petterd, Davey, Sylvia ect

How much are you prepared to pay?

My forward line has SJ, Franklin, Goodes, Fyfe, Martin but is Steve Johnson worth it? How is he going this preseason? Are there any other players I should consider?

I'm happy with the rest of my team but only have $2,600 in the bank. By choosing someone else other than SJ I could free up $40-60k which could come in handy..thoughts?

Now that Grimes is injured AGAIN, perhaps Green will play off a HBF like you suggested...he may even EXPLODE in that role! :)
