Came to say that

Was dreadful early but perhaps he needed that time to get back the groove.

Good to see him amongst it today with 14 touches and some hard stuff

I said at half time to a mate that I wanted him to have a good second half and finish with 15 touches - I'll let him off the one touch, he definitely made improvements in the second half, not surprisingly he was given chances in the midfield and that helped him find a groove.

So good to see him back in the senior squad! Deserves a game next week. Hopefully they'll give him time like Nelson (as mentioned by dispute ) who is really starting gain confidence and looking more like a part of this 22.

I prefer him to Hutchings. IMO he is a lot cleaner under pressure, way more composure and awareness. I get nervous AF with the ball in Hutchings hands. Besides, he's our future, something Simmo always says we need to keep one eye on.

I thought Duggen looked good in the second half. Loved his attack on the ball and fingers crossed he builds on that and grows in confidence. He has the ability we saw that in his first season before the knee injury.
The major issue for us that that depth players like Hutchings's are playing because our young kids are either injured or not performing. So for me Hutchings is a bit of a barometer of where we are at. If he's in there's a off smell in our midfield.

First half he was not playing on instinct - far too worried about his opponent rather than focus on the ball. Plays with light feet where he doesnt seem to hold his ground.

Mitchell had a hand in getting him into the game second half - could see him having a long chat post half time break and giving him a rev up. Wouldnt be surprised if mitchell told simmo to put him more in the guts

His 2nd half doesn't excuse the terrible game he played.

Needs some consistency though, he's not going to improve in the WAFL with a team getting pumped by 10 goals each week.
His second half meant he didn't play a terrible game though.

his composure and awareness is what i was impressed with. You can not coach it

His 2nd half was a par effort. You lowered your expectations after his horse shit first half so any touch from Duggan seemed like "gold".

I distinctly remember before the game you said "20+ disposals and a goal" was the minimum you'd expect from him after he Houdini'd his way into the side ahead of Sheed. He fell well short of those expectations, and yet somehow he gets a tick from you?

Amirite campaigner!

Duggan did well when moved into the middle second half. The annoying thing is the reports of the game are praising this as Simpson's versatility, but I highly doubt it would have happened had Mitchell not hurt his ankle during the match.

I'm treating it as two separate games from him. The first half was awful, no doubt, but he showed a lot of character to step up and contribute very well in the second. I'm willing to give him a pass overall for that.

Something we struggled with last year was the 'extra' mids - there seemed to be a carousel of players that would come in and get around 10 touches for a game because Priddis etc dominated the time in the middle. Last night was a good start in terms of giving more players opportunity in that spot. But would it had happened if Mitchell hadn't hurt himself?

I'm keen to see how this side evolves after Priddis retires.

No it would not. We're stuck with both Priddis and Mitchell for 2018 as well too IMO. And i don't mean to imply 'stuck with' is necessary a bad thing.

But we won't get to see how player X goes at the coalface for another couple of seasons i think.

Duggan and Sheed don't exactly dominate in the clearances at East Perth to be fair.

Duggan needs to keep playing at AFL level. Was at the game on Thursday and just watched the replay, he really got going in the 2nd half despite a few errant kicks (which is understandable coming into a high-pressure game for your first of the year). Shows intent and sets up the play; his 15-20 touches are better than our other options, with a higher ceiling.

Really hope Nelson, Duggan, Sheed take their games to the next level and impose themselves on games - really need some young mids to stand up. Throw Venables in that mix too.

Venables didn't seem to get a touch for EP and Sheed was playing on a small hard worker who played plenty of reserves early last season. So how great are they at the moment?

Cue somebody who saw the game

Do you think Priddis will go on again next year? He hasn't signed an extension yet as far as I know

Priddis strikes me as the kind of guy who wants to get the absolute most out of himself with his football.

Considering he's still playing 'reasonable' footy, the fact there has been zero talk of retirement from anyone, and the way he is loved by all in the club, i'd say it was highly unlikely Priddis retired at the end of this season.

My tip is he plays again next year and his performances start to taper off.
