Dustin Fletcher Overrated!

Can't say he's over-rated..... under-rated if anything!

A question to Bombers fans - why has Fletch seemingly given a reprieve whereas it appeared Lloyd was virtually forced out of the club (thought they were both playing similar footy at the time...........

Flexibility was always Fletch's biggest asset so Knights could play him anywhere effctively. Lloyd on the other hand was a FF. Yes he was still able to do some damage at CHF but really FF was where he shoudl have been played particulalry late in his career (you can't expect a player to take on a bigger role in their twilight) Knights knew that a new forward line was needed so other options had to be given a shot at FF (Neagle, Gumby & Hurley). The logic was sound but the implimentation was poor. IMHO Lloyd deserved better treatment from the club & could have played on. I'm extremely glad he didn't pursue his career elsewhere as it most likley would have cuased further embarrasement for us. IMHO Lloyd at 31 could easily still have been a dangerous FF in a better side.

The fact he has held his spot for that long shows how good he is. If he was overrated then explain why he has played that many games

Most other people see him as more of a solid, dependable, enduring backman like other 300 gamers: Bruce Doull, John Rantall, John Blakey or Kelvin Moore.
Doull was more than just a dependable and enduring backman like Fletcher...Made the team of the century...Fairer and better footballer than Fletcher.
Enough about Fletcher already. He is the grand old man of Essendon, but let's not crap on about him all the time. There's nothing more that needs to be said about the man. Let's pay more attention to other great footballers who have been underrated or overlooked.
Geoff Southby was rated higher than SOS by a lot of Carlton people...Southby was an accurate long kick like Fletcher, but didn't get smashed by the power forwards.

As centurion mentioned, it's his fitness.

I honestly cannot recall him missing too many games throughout his career aside from suspensions.

Sadly, Lloydy's body had gone on him by comparison.

interestingly a memory I have of the 2000 gf is early on Neitz getting dragged after spitting the dummy & giving a free away to guess who, Fletcher:D

really do not recall Neitz being considered amongst the Dees best that day, but its been a while

& lol yeh, sorry for bringing up Fletcher again

imagine writing this in a thread about Fletcher

What's up mate, the thread title didn't give you a heads up? You do know you're not obliged to read and comment on everything, right?
Are you a bit thick or something?

I already explained myself in the post which you've partially quoted.

The thread is titled: Dustin Fletcher Overrated!

If it was just another thread about whether Fletcher is better than Scarlett, or whether he is in a front-runner to be named All-Australian full back based on his three games in 2011, then I might not have bothered to open the thread

If South Of The Yarra is straight up with his OP, then he's basically giving the finger to all the Fletcher haters and reiterate what a gun Fletcher is. The thread is less about Fletcher, but how the footy world rates him. Slight difference, but an important distinction.

Capiche?

I am quite entitled to ask why everyone craps on about Fletcher all the time. It's valid question to ask in this thread, especially when you consider there is a search function and many other threads already written about Dustin Fricken Fletcher.

real bad case on envy going on here methinks
Silly comment. Why would I be envious? Every club has their star players, including mine. I don't begrudge people from discussing their team's champions, but in Fletcher's case, I just wonder why we need to go over the same ground? It's not like Max Hudghton, who played decent footy for his entire career before he finally got a bit of credit in his last couple of seasons (and mainly because Ross Lyon wouldn't pick him!)

you do know it cant be 'all about you all the time', yes:rolleyes:
People reply to my posts or they have a crack at me personally (like you have done) so it's only natural that I would respond. That's how these message boards work. I try my best to stick to the topic.

You accuse me of making it "all about me" but that's exactly what you've done!

Oh well.

At least you weren't cramping on about how underrated Fletcher is. :D

wow you really dont get it do you,

so sad :(for you

Underrated for sure, what a great run down against Garlett, poor Garlett decision but Fletcher for almost 36 catching him and the great tackle saving the loss for the bombers.

Just watched the Blues v Bombers game here in Dubai (one of the 2 games we get this week) and I thought Fletcher was pretty good.
His last tackle didn't win Essendon the match but definitely stopped them losing!!
