Martin can have a better career then Judd TBH. The AFL puts Judd on a pedestal and its cringe worthy. A great player but NOT the greatest.

Yes the original topic was discussing their first 2 years but the issue has now spread to what Martin needs to do to end up being as good as Judd over his career. Surely that is worth discussing as well when we're talking about Martin hopefully becoming one of the greats.

I'm sorry RT but that's simply twisting the OP to suit your own argument, no one here has ever compared present day Judd to Martin, it is only you and santa who are comparing present day Judd with Martin and are attacking other peoples post who are quite obviously comparing the 2 in the early stages of there career. Nice try though. :thumbsu:

Here is my first post in this thread where I agree that Martin has been quite impressive over the first 2 years of his career:
While Martin has been impressive in his first 2 seasons I must say that I agree with Claws to a degree. Comparing Martin and Judd is a poor comparison, Judd is a 2 time Brownlow medal winner, multiple B&F winner and for the best part of his career has been regarded as one of the top 2-3 players in the league.

Yes Martin has had some outstanding games so far and shapes up as a potential great of the game but that is just it, its all potential at the moment. I'm not saying that we can't get excited about how his future looks, but we need to keep things in perspective somewhat.

I probably could have worded where I said that comparing Judd and Martin is poor better, but I was trying to get across that while its great to talk up Martin, we should also acknowledge that Judd has performed for a decade, while Martin is only 2 years in.

To me if we're going to discuss how good Martin has been for his first 2 seasons, then we should expand the issue and discuss what he needs to do to become a genuine great, not just another kid who had great potential but failed to deliver.

Is that really necessary? Its stating the bleeding obvious.
The whole point is that given Judd is the chosen benchmark for a playing career, how can we check his progress so far?
Everyone knows that Martin has to improve in areas, that's not the point, all that anyone has claimed is that his progress so far is at least equal, if not better to what Judd's was at the same age. Nothing else matters as far as this discussion, I don't get what you're trying to argue against here.

The comparison was made between martins 2nd year and judds second year.

Nothing else!

It was Craw and then you who compared martins 2 year career to judds 10 year career.

You still don't get it do you? NO ONE in here has compared Judd to Martin over there careers, simply compared Judds second year in the AFL to Martins, how hard is that to comprehend, or is that to much back pedaling for you to do so you simply twist words around to suit your own argument?

How many times do I have to say that I agree that Martin has been quite impressive so far in his career? If everyone wants to sit here and have a circle jerk session and not want to discuss I'm just trying to expand the discussion into what he needs to do to continue to be compared to someone like Judd. Again I don't see why that is such a drama except that I'm not joining everyone else in heaping praise on Martin.

Martin is good but needs needs to improve to be as good as Judd. Newsflash.

Would it be wrong to tell a moderator to stay on topic?:D

I still think Cotchin will be better than both of them......oh wait.....
I thought the topic was how good Martins start to his career has been and how good he could be considering that people are comparing his start to Judds. However, I now see that all posters want to do is stop at Martin is better than Judd after 2 years and not discuss what he needs to do to do to ensure that in his 10th year fans are using him as the comparison for the next possible champion.

And what does he have to do? get better at every facet of the game? Amazing. Judd is one of the best ever and I don't think anyone is under any illusions as to what Dusty has to do to reach his level.

ps. Who deleted Santa's post? It was funny.

Exactly let's not turn this thread into a couple of posters having a circle jerk stating the obvious that Martin is not in Judds league yet and what he'll have to do to get there in the next 8 years.

Those stats originally posted by the Cotch are a real eye opener and shows Dusty could be anything and is the most exciting Tiger on our list since Cotchin and Reiwoldt.

10 Brownlow votes in 2011 could double this year.

Fact is, Dusty is equal if not ahead of Judd at the same age.

He's shown that he's willing to work on his weaknesses, ie returning to the club in top shape, openly saying that he wants to improve his defensive side.

Let's just enjoy in the fact we have this kid at the club and watch him destroy the comp next year.

It's going to be special to watch that is for sure.

just don't display any public excitement, happiness or even contentedness, lest some misery guts tries to shroud us all with their darkness.

Lets keep the darkness out of it. Martin is a beauty , add Reiwoldt , Cotchin , Vickery , Conka , Ellis and Rance into the equation and it is going to be a great year for Tiger heads.

I'm even excited about what Griffith and Elton are going to bring to the table this year.

Dustin Martin = Champion

Only injury could stop him.

True , Lids should be starring down the barrell of All Australian this year. I hope Hardwick has some tricks up his sleeve to break the tags he's going to recieve all year if he is moved onto the ball.

Another player that excites me and that has the potential to have a great year is Griggs!

I'm seriously considering him as 1 of my ruck options for my super coach side

Brett Deledio has the pace and tank to run out nearly all AFL taggers. Even if he was to be shut-out of the game, it would leave Cotchin and Martin tagless or against weaker opponents, which is still a tremendous outcome.

These would be my tips for our better midfielders to break tags.

Brett Deledio - Run them out, you are much fitter and stronger than most other AFL players.

Dustin Martin - Use your brute strength and always stay in front, if you are unable to accomplish that, then play as an outside and use your burst speed to your advantage.

Trent Cotchin - Focus on the ball and only the ball, do not worry about your opponent, your biggest asset is to win your own ball, so do it.

Nathan Foley - Stay on the outside, when the ball is out use your explosive pace.
