'There is a glimmer': Why Dusty comeback talk lingers

9News understands the Brownlow medallist (Martin) signed a form post-season which means he would need to nominate for November's national draft to be eligible to play at all next year.

His decision to sign the Form 40 papers makes him ineligible to be picked up as a delisted free agent in the same way Jack Martin will join Geelong and Tim Membrey will join Collingwood from November 1, so his path to the Suns - if there is a path at all - cannot be trekked until the national draft at the earliest.

Besides, the Suns have four list spots available and would not be able to take Martin beforehand.

In order to prepare for the chances of a high bid on academy prospect Leo Lombard, Gold Coast will likely need to take four picks into the November 20-21 draft. The club currently has selections 39, 41, 51, 61, 70, 76 and 78.

If Martin nominates for the national draft it would be a bombshell move from the Tigers icon. And it would surprise Richmond officials, who have believed all year his retirement was final.

Nominating for the draft wouldn't just open the possibility of a club picking him up among the best teenagers in the country in November, but also the rookie draft, and the supplementary selection period (SSP) over summer.

And it would raise the possibility, albeit far-fetched, that Dusty could parachute into the Suns partway through the 2025 season via the mid-season draft.

Sounds like he’s moving
I doubt he has much reason to stay in Melbourne?

Why would he, having Tigers fans gush over him wherever he goes, would be like living on edge all the time

Retired Richmond star Dustin Martin won’t be lost to footy — it appears he is set to join the commentary ranks with Fox Footy.

The 302 game superstar was recently captured in secret talks with key footy powerbrokers in South Melbourne.

He was seen sharing a coffee with Foxtel boss Patrick Delany, Fox Sports managing director Steve Crawley, Fox Footy commentator and former Richmond teammate Jack Riewoldt and his manager Ralph Carr.

This is interesting... given he isn't much of a talker, less alone in the media lol

If Joel Selwood can get a job at commentating, I guess anyone can.

At least Selwood has been known to talk. The most words Ive heard from dusty was during his farewell speech after when they played the suns this year. So this should be interesting.

I got really invested in Dusty to the Suns, but I’ll admit I only wanted it so that I could rub Tiger fans noses in it.

I’m happy to move on now
