Obviously the picks wont go all the way to 130, but clubs can delist 9 or 10 players and have up to 6-7 picks in the draft.

Look at all those numbers for the Hawks....looks like a winning Tattslotto ticket! :D

I reckon we will use at least 6 picks. We are down to 36 already (Dent, Rock, Croad, McPharlin) all gone, and Loats, Obst are almost certainities to be delisted. Add to that a good chance Lord or Woods may go, and we will be down to 33.

Probably pick 7, first 5 on young guns and the last two on BHH players Sammy Mitchell and John Baird - but time will tell I guess.

Reading through the newspaper today I notice that Freo had traded Daniel Schell to Adelaide for some picks in the 50's. If they traded for a pick in the 50's it obviously means they intend to use the pick. Will this be the same for other clubs? I originally thought that WC would only go to #38 but after hearing that 40 youngsters could all be drafted in the top 20, its got me reconsidering. Maybe clubs will keep drafting much longer this year in the hope of drafting a surprise late. I know a lot of very good players in the 90's got drafted late but with draft camp, the best youngsters are starting to be drafted early. Anyway, what # pick do you think your club will go to?

not a very good one...

Don't be so sure. There's plenty of examples of guys being taken late in the draft that have turned out to be great players.

Wasn't Hird #90 odd...? And Long....?

I could be wrong though.

Sure to be a a couple of Richard Lounder's, John Hutton's and Anthony Banik's in the top ten somewhere..for all the hype about getting the No 1 pick, how many No 1's have turned out to be a Wayne Carey, James Hird or the like...not many if at all.
Sometimes being a top ten pick can be like an anchor to some young players cos of the expectations that come with it.
As West Coast showed when they picked up Heady and Kemp
with late picks having an eye for talent is probably the most important factor in drafting.

Go roos in 2002

you really mean being able to rort the system... by organising thousands of dodgy draft nominations... and in the process being able to hide local talent... like Heady and Kemp...

Go Tigers

Well we only have 7 and the first at 33, lol. I can't believe we gave away our #17. But as proven in history ... lower draft picks aren't always the best.

Geelong = smart

People will probaby bag the absolute shi*t ouf me for saying this, but i must say this, so please refrain from ****ing youself laughing until the end of this thread:D

Justin Murphy was an absolute gun in Geelong's midfield, he had excellent disposal, and he took most of the kick ins, but he never played on his opponent, the club will not miss him he refused to settle in not for any personal reason but he was a blue 110% and he his back where he belongs.

Clint Bizzell's trade could be the biggest mistake that Geelong made since they wouldn't give greg williams a stingy $5000, to stay. Bizz did not have his mind on the job in 2001 he was probably played out of position but you have to do something with the opportunities he got.

The bi-monthly re-evaluatio of Geelong list by Robert " I've got a grudge again Geelong" Walls, when Geelong played their first 3 games he praised the talented and exciting group of Geelong young players now they are players that have a limited skill level and lack decision making under pressure.

Well there are going to be a lot of kids drafted so we will see Mr Walls.

Geelong have ( 8, 17, 23, 24, 40, 41,) 72, 88, 104, 120
six picks between pick 8 and 41, thats got to bring talent to the club.
Why does Collingwoods youngsters get praised so much how much better are the cats young players then the Magpies.

Fair Dinkium, we are not going to win a flag in the next three years but im telling you all now that a Geelong dynasty is around the corner:D

I think your right GOALden Hawk,
5-6- kids and Johnny Baird as a back-up tall.
Sammy Mitchell has earned a crack at the big time.

I would be interested on people's thoughts on Chance Bateman,
the poor fella's had a hard year I know but do you think he will make it ??

What about Ries ??

Mark Williams looks alright too.

Bustling Billy???

Timmy Hazzell

There are few blokes on the list that have been there a few years now, so there could be some improvement as well.

Have to agree with Obsty and Loatsy, haven't come up with the goods.

I like the look of Big Robert Campbell, I think he has jumped ahead of the big BOF.

nolsey77,
I think that Geelong are in a similar position as the Hawks were a few years ago, and have decided to bite the bullet and go for the young blokes....... it worked a charm for the Hawkers, good luck to the cats. The reason the Collingwood youngsters get praised so much is simple - they're Collingwood! As for Robert Walls........

Expect Brad Flower son of Robert Flower to be picked at the 50 mark under the father-son rule!

Um, you have to give up a third round pick for a father-son, Melbourne have a 1st, two 2nd round and a 4th round thus if they want him they have to give up one of their second round picks.

Cheers
