Are we as a club taking covid seriously? This is not unlucky anymore. Why is this not happening to all clubs? Do they have stricter conditions being set by their clubs? Are our players ignoring their instructions surrounding covid?

Just can't keep saying this is bad luck anymore. There is something going wrong

I wonder if being locked on a plane for 9 hours every second week is a contributing factor. If so, might see Freo Covid number heading north soon too.

Did players only get paid for wins in the old days or something?

It was different at some clubs but a very popular model was like $500 for a win and $100 for a loss. Of course in this professional world that is different now. but it does lead to a common question of why is the cap floor so high.
If the cap floor was dropped to like 70% we could drop what these guys are being paid to the level they are performing.

Only in sport you can get away with not performing and still get huge money. Normal work place it simply doesn't happen.
Anyway it is what it is.

Clarke out...damn, wanted to see more of him in action.
And Knights holding the reins for Simmo - would we see something different?

Who has the comprehensive list of which players have already missed with Covid? We must be near the end of it, coaches and support staff aside.

No one is going to know for certain, because they refuse to confirm who is missing due to actually having COVID, versus missing because they were isolating as a close contact.

At least a few players may have missed due to isolating, but could end up getting COVID later in the season.

And of course... plenty of people are getting it twice, so there's that to.

Ryan and H.Edwards (pre-season)
Kelly and Bazzo (Rd 1)
Kennedy, Barrass, Waterman, Redden, Naitanui, Hough, Langdon, Rotham, Jones, Dixon, Winder, Hedwards again (Rd 2)
Shuey, Duggan, Rioli, Williams, Williams (rd 3)
Petch (rd 4)
McGovern (rd 5)
Jamieson (rd 6)
Foley (rd 7)
Nelson, Witherden, Clark, others (rd 8)

Probably missed some.

Depends on the workplace, there’s plenty of examples of people getting paid good money to do **** all.

We’re going to be asked to re-elect a whole bunch of them in a couple of weeks time, just for a start.

Miguel we never got paid period in the old days and had to bring our own oranges 🍊 for half time. 😉
Had to walk to the ground too. In the snow! None of this bloody namby pamby “team bus” nonsense.

Laugh, cry, bullet? what do you do?
We have quite literally been shagged from the inside out this year and we are only 7 rounds deep.
No team in the history of the AFL would of had such a compromised start to the season even including Essendon and their protein problems and Carlton with their spending spree.
Oh well at least we are going to get a few players back who play with vigour.

In those days, you also had chook raffles to help run the club.

There's no way the Players Association would agree to dropping the salary cap.

The AFLPA can go f themselves…
A body set up to earn more with doing as little as possible…

Every player should have a guaranteed base payment with incentives for performance… soon figure out who wants to play for cash or for performance… some downhill skiers will quickly realise defence doesn’t just go around de house

Never going to happen.

The cap floor not the salary cap. It is insanity that the last placed team pays their players the same as the first placed team.

Makes it difficult to plan out your salary cap if a huge chunk of your players salary is contingent on them doing particular things.

What performance markers do you set? If they’re straight stats, you’ll wind up with players trying to rack up stats to meet their contractual marks. If they’re subjective, you’ll wind up with arguments about whether teams have marked players down just to save cash.

And if players are offered an incentive-based contract at one club and a guaranteed contract at another, they’ll grab the sure thing more often than not, so clubs that don’t load up contracts with incentives will have a much easier time recruiting.

Apart from that, it’s a great idea.
