Had to walk to the ground too. In the snow! None of this bloody namby pamby “team bus” nonsense.

On a serious note when I was playing:
Colts got $12 a game reserves $19 and league got $200 and some of my mates that made it to the VFL got $2000 per game, although the average VFL player at that time got $1200- $1500 per game.

Some of the better players in A Grade amateurs ( yeah I know Amateurs are not meant to be paid ….. but reality is that Father Christmas isn’t true either ) were getting $200 per game and if you went to play country football you could pick up $300 per game.

To put that all in perspective when I graduated from Uni, I was on relatively good coin in the workforce and got $ 650 per week….. seems crazy but that’s how it was.

Apologies I have prattled on way to long now … I best show myself out . 😉

You can catch it more than once you know!

And did they miss with covid or just forced to isolate due to being a close contact?
No doubt but I think it is far less severe and far less readily contracted if you have had a previous infection.

Real world example; the managing director of our company recently went to Sydney for a big company pow wow after the WA border re-opened with a bunch of colleagues from the other states.

23 people in the conference. Nine of the 23 had previously had Covid being from the east coast or areas where Covid was rife. The 14 that had never had Covid got a 100% infection rate whilst not one of those who previously had it got re-infected. Not a peer reviewed medical paper I know but goes to show how contagious it is but also how difficult it seems to be to catch it twice.

I can’t remember what the rates were in my day but it would be difficult to convert from pounds and shillings anyway.

He has tough stickers.. instantly a 3 goal better side!

Looks in far better condition than any of our mids.

Pretty damning on our club when part time footballers are in better shape.

Why would Aaron Black not be selected? More than held his own being played out of position.
WAFL season is on now, maybe he'd prefer to stay and help the Falcons rather than get another token AFL game. He's already had his debut, what more would he get out of it?

You can absolutely judge a person’s physique from promotional photos you see on the Internet.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with someone I met on Tinder who’s way out of my league and looks like they should be a runway model in Milan. Really looking forward to this.

Jake Florenca is a player that I am really looking forward to see how he goes.
Kid can play.
His last season for South was really good and he finished second or third in their F&B and has started the 2022 season with a bang.
He is one that on my list that I would think gets a serious look at by Clubs in the AFL mid season draft.
Certainly one of the better WAFL players the past few seasons.

From memory still only 24, so plenty of games left in him to play AFL.

When I graduated uni in 2006, Ernst and Young offered to pay me $675 per week (I told them where to go), so you must have been on a good wicket for the 1950s.

Makes it difficult to plan out your salary cap if a huge chunk of your players salary is contingent on them doing particular things.

IIRC, most clubs do have performance incentives. But no, it isn't a huge chunk of the cap. There just isn't enough wiggle room between the floor and the maximum. The floor used to be set at 90% of TPP, but it has been lifted over the years to 95%. It's pretty stupid really.

I understand the Players Association want to get the best deal possible for the players... but it's completely idiotic that a club like North Melbourne is basically paying more or less the same as Melbourne.

Going to be awkward when he lines up in the back pocket tagging Daniel Rich.

Simmo is writing that down as a non negotiable for Knights as we speak.

Through all the hilarious chaos, Petrucelle doing his hamstring after coming out of covid isolation has been swept under the rug a bit.

That's damning for mine. Once again he cannot get any continuity in his football whatsoever.

Reckon he's already lost what positives and good will he did for himself last year. Wouldn't be extending that 2023 contract in a hurry. Trade bait.

What performance markers do you set? If they’re straight stats, you’ll wind up with players trying to rack up stats to meet their contractual marks. If they’re subjective, you’ll wind up with arguments about whether teams have marked players down just to save cash.

And if players are offered an incentive-based contract at one club and a guaranteed contract at another, they’ll grab the sure thing more often than not, so clubs that don’t load up contracts with incentives will have a much easier time recruiting.

Apart from that, it’s a great idea.

Thats where you don’t base it on kicks and handballs, base it on performance, tackles, shepherds, one percenters, chases, performance in contests…

As for players chasing the easy money, refer gaff, mcgoverns last couple of years, kelly, sheed,. Money mercenaries who wont do the hard work.

Forecast between 10-20mms now for Saturday.. might keep it under 100 points.

Base it on what you like, whatever you put in the contract, you run the risk that the player will be more worried about that than about what he needs to do for the team.

E.g Give McGovern or Barrass a one-percenters based incentive and you give them an incentive to spoil rather than intercept mark.

Here’s a crazy idea: how about we just pay them a salary and the coaches tell them what they’re expected to do on field, and drop them if they don’t do it?

So when does the finger start getting pointed at the S&C team/ medicos?

You cant have as many players on the injury list as we do and shrug your shoulders and say "oh well, its just bad luck"?

I dont think we've put in a proper preseason since 2018. Too many heads too far up arses to put in the work. in 19, 20, 21 it's been obvious our squad wasn't fit comparatively and particularly after the various lockdowns, it was also clear our boys just took it easy. After the disgraceful end to last year it looks like a red hot attempt has been made to improve fitness in 2022, but instead we decimated the squad with injuries probably because they weren't conditioned from the previous years. Also it was galling hearing Brayshaw from the Dockers the other week talking about avoiding Covid by doing simple things like not being out on the town, in nightclubs and what not.
