    Coney Island Warriors 17.10.112 defeated East Side Hawks 17.8.110 @ Van Cortlandt Park

    Round 1 of Season 30 saw the mighty Hawks start with a road trip to Van Cortlandt Park as they took on the Coney Island Warriors. The Warriors came into S30 with a point to prove, after missing out on finals qooty in S29 by a mere 0.93%. The Hawks were also looking to continue building on a promising S29 which ended with them unceremoniously being dumped out of the finals in the first round.

    The Warriors flew out of the blocks early, kicking the first goal of the game with just 45 seconds on the clock through ex-Hawk NaturalDisaster. An inaccurate first quarter saw 4 behinds scored between each side before another goal was kicked, as chelseacarlton pushed the Warriors advantage out to 2 goals. 11kgm would add the Hawks first of the season, before Tonga Bob, iGNITER, and Randomizor added 3 late goals for the Warriors. Itsmyshow snuck a late major in before the first break to reduce the Warriors lead to 17 points, leading the Hawks 5.2.32 - 2.3.15

    The Hawks were on the back foot again after the first break as the Warriors booted the next 3 goals of the game through Randomizor, harry000 (2) to take their lead out to 37 points. The Hawks would respond with 3 of their own through PMBangers, TY24 and 11kgm. Goals from NaturalDisaster , 11kgm, and Smoooothy would round out the opening half, with the Warriors taking a 38 point advantage into the main break.

    The Hawks munched on their red snakes at the long break and got off to a flyer, with Chipmunk and Milera2Betts kicking 2 quick goals before NaturalDisaster and BEEG quickly canceled them out. Quick goals from TY24 and Itsmyshow brought the Hawks back into the match. 11kgm then added his 4th of the game, before Loonerty and NaturalDisaster traded goals to end a relatively quiet third term for the Warriors, with the Hawks able to peg the Warriors advantage back to 2 straight kicks at the final change. 14.7.91 played 12.7.79.

    The Warriors appeared to put the game to bed with 2 quick majors to start the final term, with FootyGuy13 , Tonga Bob converting. However, The Jesus and Chipmunk kept the Hawks slim hopes alive as they brought the margin back to 2 kicks. Red mist then made Warriors fans nervous with another major, before Frankston Rover steadied the ship for them. Milera2Betts and Red mist so very nearly broke Warrior hearts with their late majors, however the Warriors would hold on for a 2 point victory in the season opener, defeating the Hawks 17.10.112 - 17.8.110.

    NaturalDisaster came back to haunt his old side with 4 majors, and Tonga Bob had a day out with 25 touches and 2 goals. 11kgm impressed in his debut with 4 goals, whilst Chipmunk kicked 2 goals on top of their 33 disposals in a man of the match performance.

    East Side Hawks 18.18.126 defeated Baghdad Bombers 12.9.81 @ The Eyrie

    A below-par Hawks were still far to strong for the Bombers, who have now lost 10 games in a row.

    We know what to expect from the Bombers posting-wise; a high quantity, variable quality thread. And this proved no exception. It's great to see many of the new recruits getting involved and we were celebrating Golumless ' 200th game. We didn't let him down and he was able to ring in a 4 DT performance.

    Loonerty was on hand to tell it like it is though:

    We still don't think WaynesWorld19 gets it.

    As for the game itself, PMBangers got us going quickly with the first goal and it was clear that the Bombers were playing like a team who had lost 9 games in a row. 19 points clear at QT and winning every other quarter by about 10 points meant we won the match by 45.

    The goals were spread out but 11kgm playing from the forward pocket continued his goalkicking form, albeit he could have had a much more special day than his 3.5. The Jesus was best on ground with 25 disposals, 17 hitouts, 6 tackles and 2 goals.
