IMO this thread just shows how far we have as a society to go in basic understanding of racism and sexism etc.

I think from reading this thread, some appear to be driven by the we hate change thought , we want life as it was in the 70's, this is so bad, the sky is falling in.

sad really.

Racism and sexism do exist in my everday life, and it is very very hard.
I think that once you win over the majority, the minority lead a backlash with increasingly outlandish statements. Then they disappear.

I do.

We hear the word racism and racist used at its most regular today to describe anyone who disagrees with an ideology. Nothing at all to do with with persons actual "racial" background.

Someone says something against Islam "OMG RACISM".

That's how the word has been dumbed down and used to a point where it's lost its power and been replaced with hysteria and stupidity.

Such a shame someone like Christopher Hitchens isn't around to tear this kind of crap apart with common sense.
You here it more because people have got sick of it, and are now calling it for what it is. Get used to it, or, what is it you guys like to say, HTFU.

Only if you apply it to everyone who is likened to an ape or a monkey.

Do you do that?
In fact it would be racist NOT to call a non-white guy a monkey! Isn't that right mate?

We hear the meaning of lots of words stretched, narrowed and broadened.

Why is it that "racist" is the one you're hearing all the time?

Because of the climate of people who use a term incorrectly. Do I have to accept their definition of what racism is? Can I challenge their stupidity and lack of a dictionary?

These simple minded fools who are so ready to be triggered by a single word that as soon as they hear it regardless of the context they lose their mind.

This detracts from true racism.

So when a moron says it's racist to pour scorn on Islam that's racism? I have HTFU, that's why I'm challenging these insipid people with little care for how they view my views.

Yeah Really?
Smith called it how it is and it's Newman thats the crusty dried out cat turd.

Anyone notice how his head is looking more and more like that hairless pet cat of Dr Evil fame?
Not really. Smith badly paraphrased to paint a picture that wasn't there

This is ridiculous how this has been twisted into being sexist and somehow insulting towards women. This was an insult from one person to another, nothing more. If one person insults another person and the one copping it is a minority of some sort or a woman look out, because this current society will make it about that and make it bigger than it actually is. Classic example of the media making the news. Yes it wasn't a nice thing to say and it shouldn't have been said but it's nothing more.

I think that's probably right to a degree but I would add that the insult was so cheap, so derogatory, and such an abuse of power that it warrants resignation.

Anyone heard about an exchange between Leigh Matthews, Matthew Lloyd and Caro about this.

I haven't kept up with the thread.

Got a text today about it.

Caro's not up for any sort of criticism whatsoever, and anyone who questions her articles "offends" her and is called "sexist".

So, let me get this straight. If you are paid to criticise and offend someone, by calling yourself a journo, it is okay, but anyone who responds to the criticism has no right to?
