News Eddie McGuire to step down end of 2021

Eddie makes as many idiotic statements as Trump. I’m honestly not sure who is more cringeworthy.

Big difference ...

... Ed genuinely loves the club and his actions are always intended to be in the best interests of the club (Even if he does sometimes fall short)

... Trump only cares about himself (and maybe his family). He doesn’t give a stuff about his party, and only sees that his party and country are things to exploit for personal gain. For all Ed’s faults, he’s not that.

If it is a waste of time, then no harm done by signing it ;). At the very least we can show to those that have been harmed by the actions of Eddie and the Club that we support them.

Ed's position isn't up for decision tonight is it?

I am finding all the comments about putting proper processes etc in place kind of strange. I can tell you in one sentence how to fix the problem.

Just treat people with respect.

Simple.

By processes I meant a proper complaint resolution process when accusations of racism, etc are made - clearly there was not one in place both at Collingwood, and AFL level for that matter

As far as playing group culture, that looks to have changed. Hence no complaints post Lumumba.

Like I said, all this is old news. The only thing that is recent is the report itself

I’m happy he is finishing up, but social warriors don’t run the club either. No thanks
Agree 100%.

I've wanted McGuire out for years, but to see him pushed out in these circumstances because there's a concerted effort by the media and the woke brigade to demand his resignation is a disgrace.

I won't be signing the petition, and I'm a legends member.

I thought H pushed it to a point while still at the club where it was addressed with the players and stopped. Maybe that was the rude awakening? Maybe those that used the offensive nickname and racist undertones had already departed?

Armstrong said he didn't experience it, nor witness it, but based on another person's allegation is prepared to call it systemic.

Interesting to note that Peter Helliar has come out and apologised and fully supported Heritier after the comments yesterday.

Been a big admirer of Eddie over the time frame but I do feel its the right time for him to step down. Collingwood needs to look to the future right now and it will no doubt crossed his mind that if your going to go out, go out and let the successor change the culture for the better moving forward.

I guess he'd come to those conclusions based on the trust of the relationship with whoever is sharing the information. The review backs that proposition which makes it pretty hard to dispute his claims.

There are some similarities, it’s a matter of degree.:p

Some Americans lived in fear of what Trump would do next, which international agreement he’d rip up or longtime ally he’d cut adrift.

And some of us lived in fear of who Eddie would offend next, what sensitive topic he’d stumble into, what crack he’d have at another club only for one of our own idiots to do the same thing.

I'd appreciate if you didn't lump me in with the 'woke brigade' just because I have an opinion you disagree with. I too have wanted McGuire out for years, I am also a member. You don't have to categorise me in relation to an out-group just because you don't like what I have to say.

I'm sorry mate.

I'm frustrated by the mob mentality to kick our President when he's down.

Just listened to eddies comments. To use the word proud at the start and to repeat, was galling. proud boys of america culture, surely he was not alluding to that. An alpha male who just repeats matey blokes stuff. Collingwood can surely be much better than that.

They share similar personality's as in using the media to there advantage.
Trump was about power and more so money in my opinion and the media spotlight so I have to agree they both are the same but to a separate extreme.

A very ‘separate extreme’, and I’m being tongue in cheek. Although I am looking forward to the day when we have a President with little or no media or public profile.

Haha great post.

Putting it into context I wonder how many Trump supporters get outraged at eddies gaffes. Id say a lot. Thread is disengenious.

The interesting part of this, is who leaked the report to the HS?? Who left recently with an agenda against Ed?
I prefer to think that it was out of a sense of justice - a la Wikileaks - rather than a tactic to get Eddie. The board had six weeks to pre empt any leaking and failed to take the opportunity. No one could have predicted that, even with so long to prepare a strategic response to the report, the best Eddie could come up with was 'What a proud day for the Collingwood Football Club!'. Someone with a conscience leaked the report.

Sorry for the intrusion guys.

Eddie does not always read the teas leaves correctly but he surely has earned the right to resign rather than pushed our by media lead public outcry. Guys like Eddie and Peter Gordon who are high profile but are really passionate about there clubs are hard to find. I think it would be an injustice if Eddy was forced out. Give him the dignity of of leaving on his own terms after all he has done.

"Some of us lived in fear". Really, please tell me you are joking.
