Harley Ryan a big loss

Border Mail said:
MYRTLEFORD has kick-started its big recruiting drive by landing Harley Ryan and Wayne Pavitt from Essendon and District Football League club Pascoe Vale.
Rebounding defender Ryan, 25, spent last season at the B-Grade grand finalist and has also had stints at VFL sides Werribee and Geelong, Northern Football League Division 1 outfit North Heidelberg and TAC Cup powerhouse Calder Cannons.

Talented forward Pavitt, 27, has had stints at Pascoe Vale, NFL Division 1 side Montmorency and Division 3 club South Morang.

The Saints have also picked up forward Riley O’Shea and midfielder Grant Harris from Ovens and King side Bright.

O’Shea booted 56 goals from 15 matches for the Mountain Men last season, including a bag of six away to grand finalist Milawa in round 7.

Qualified builder Ryan said the duo, who would travel from Melbourne, hoped to stay longer than just one season.

“We are keen to stay longer and we’ll talk to them and see,” he said.

“We can’t wait. It’s a new challenge. I want to come up and play some good country footy.”

Pavitt said both were aware of the task facing the Saints, who will be attempting to break the Ovens and Murray’s longest losing streak in 2011.

“We are really looking forward to it. It’s just another challenge in footy. We heard it’s probably the best country league in Victoria so we thought we’d give it a go.”

While the Saints have lost former VFL and SANFL player Joel Coombes to Southport, they remain hopeful of landing a couple of players from Western Australia.

Coach Stan Magro, who previously led WAFL sides East Perth and South Fremantle and Perth, said he was delighted with the signings.

“We are starting to take a little bit of shape,” Magro said yesterday.

“The critical period is between January and April trying to blend them together.

“We are part way towards our full plan.

“We just need a couple more to consolidate some experience in amongst our kids.

“If we can do that we’ve got the combination we’ve been seeking.”

I hear that Nth Saints have infact picked up a few of Macleod's players - couple from the D2 Premiership.

D.Watts - tough defender with penetrating kick. Didn't pay last year and has obviously been coaxed from retirement.

J.Bennett - classy left footer who takes a big grab. Is injury prone but handy if he can get his body in shape. I think only played 1 game last year.

M.Bennett- courageous backman. Always puts his body on the line. Also injury prone but handy when right.

If my mail is correct, then they would also be a big chance of getting Andy Bennett who won the NFL D2 Best & Fairest, although he is contracted at Macleod for next season. Pacy rover with sublime left foot.

There also might be a couple more from the reserves who wouldn't have cracked a Senior game at Macleod in 2011.
haha belly, look at the above players mate the saints will be kucky to get a total of 10 games between them...

Likes his hot dogs that's true but has still won 2 b&f in his last 2 years at 2 quality sides. Will be a great pick up for Tulla on the field and off it, the canteen sales will go in overdrive!
