I'd imagine it's purely financial, he gets more to play 7+ games at strathmore onto of he's coaching at Coburg. I'm not sure you're committed to either club but just involved if you've got a foot in 2 camps, where you've got no real vested interest

Why would Coburg have Dumont as an assistant coach if he doesn't attend games? I'm not sure why they wouldn't want him in a playing assistant coaching role tbh, he's on field leadership would be far more value than been on the sidelines
Agreed, but hes probrably had that arrangement to coach but not play VFL, because for quite some time hes been too used to playing in a side with a lack of success. Lets not forget since 2016 hes played in 1 SANFL final and that was in 2023, while he also experienced a few mediocre seasons with North. He probrably doesn't want to experience that again with Coburg.I'd imagine it's purely financial, he gets more to play 7+ games at strathmore onto of he's coaching at Coburg. Yep and the VFL competition for that matter. For at least over a decade now, especially post COVID the pull to play or coach in the VFL shrinks every year. Little does anyone that would be a quality player in the competition want to play in it anymore, they'd rather play in the SANFL or WAFL, real state league competitions or chase the coin at local. Good coaches would rather pursue gigs with local clubs or rather not be involved at all. Can’t imagine Coburg have assistants knocking the door down
It’s a far cry from the halcyon days of the VFA that’s for sure. The assistants and development coaches at Preston/Coburg etc wouldn’t even get a look in 90% of local jobs. It’s either ex AFL trying to gather experience to get back system via coaching or local nuffs that do it for free and their egos.Agreed, but hes probrably had that arrangement to coach but not play VFL, because for quite some time hes been too used to playing in a side with a lack of success. Yes he will earn more money by playing local football, but as I said, its all got to do with the arrangement he has in place with both clubs, and the VFL fixture which is still yet to come out.

Pretty much, the VFL and people involved in it summed up are good people, who aren't quite good enough that just want nothing but an oppurtunity.
Wouldn't quite say that about the Bullants coaching staff. Rohan Welsh has had numerous roles at AFL and VFL level over the years. Reportedly Marty Allison, Rocky Iannello and Michael Ryan are the assistants. Even though for Allison and Iannello it didn't end well for them at their clubs in 2023 and while people question if they were ever up for those roles or not, they'd still be an asset to local clubs given their credentials. While Michael Ryan led Bundoora to 2 grand finals in 2 completed seasons in his 4 year stint affected by the pandemic. It’s a far cry from the halcyon days of the VFA that’s for sure. SANFL is a far superior comp these days, and the WAFL while not as strong is supported passionately by locals.
Think we are most likely moving to an AFL reserves comp on the east coast and the stand alone clubs being absorbed by local comps or fold.
Welsh is the head coach, irrelevant to my point. Allison and Rocky had a go at Senior coaching 20 years after they were sort after and both faced the same fate. Rocky in particular is there because he couldn’t get a gig anywhere else despite throwing his hat in almost everywhere.Wouldn't quite say that about the Bullants coaching staff. Closest thing to below state level for all current coaches: Craig McRae did coach the Queensland u18 side before his first coaching gig at AFL level while Chris Fagan coached the Tassie Mariners. There seems a trend now for guys who want to coach, to just be an assistant at afl/vfl level, rather than coach your own team first. Is bevo and ken the only current coaches at afl level that's coached their own team below state level?
I doubt most of these guys are as good as a coach as mick mcguane or Buddha hocking, it seems it more who you know in the Boys club to get you an afl coach or assistant coaching role
Premier is another level, which has always proved difficult for teams promoted from Div 1 to stay up. Not sure how accurate but heard EK have signed a couple of premiership players from DP.Deer Park have the unique ability to perform when it matters. Ask West Coburg if you are in doubt. Building nicely as we lead into 2024. A very strong group with an A Grade coach who will cause some real headaches for opposition teams and their coaching staff in 2024. Watch this space going forward...
Thank you Sierra for your respectful response. I certainly hope premier is another level because Deer Park proved by over 90 points that even an unbeaten team in the next level down couldn't handle the Deer Park machine on Grand Final Day. Apparently East Keilor have recruited a number of Deer Park premiership players and that is modern football. Good luck & best wishes to those players. Having played in Deer Park premierships they know they will always be welcome 'home' and sometimes it takes leaving home to realize how good 'home' was and as my great grandmother Gladys told me as I sat on her knee in her later years " money doesn't always bring happiness".Premier is another level, which has always proved difficult for teams promoted from Div 1 to stay up. Two good football players but replaced Quick easly and his best is way behind him. Ruckman was given an opportunity and was lucky enough to play in a grand final. Won't be missed on the ground as much as off it. Both ripper blokes who we all wish nothing but the best.Premier is another level, which has always proved difficult for teams promoted from Div 1 to stay up. Quick will be an interesting watch in Premier, he is still a very good defender but he could struggle holding the big guns in this stage of his career. Smart is a good finisher and needs supply, but he won’t be dominating on Premier defenders IMOTwo good football players but replaced Quick easly and his best is way behind him. Smart had initially signed at Aberfeldie for 2023 but renged and returned to Deer Park rumoured to be because of the training standards at Abers. Also was released by Werribee VFL because he wasn't meeting training standards.Quick will be an interesting watch in Premier, he is still a very good defender but he could struggle holding the big guns in this stage of his career. That last line is an absolute ripper coming from a DP personThank you Sierra for your respectful response. Tommy would have a fair set of jumpers now.
Does anyone have a link to the site where clearances can be viewed? TIA
