Regardless of your opinion of Caroline Wilson Ed's been in the game long enough to know there are jokes between mates and jokes said in the media..

This was one to be kept between mates..

Poor form.
As discussed Ed has long term experience and form, just should know better.
When in doubt leave it out.
If you must say things, a little tact goes a long way.

And whilst many don't like Ms Wilson, there are many better ways to indicate this.
Anyway, learn from this, move on....

The fact is what he said was appalling whether it was a joke or not. The other 2 goons just as bad.

The guy should know a lot better. He has been in the media all his life. No need to look for some cheap laughs in this manner.

BTW, I believe Eddie should man up and apologise

I agree, he should.

The problem for him doing that though is that he'll then get labelled as a self confessed misogynist that'll follow him for years, just a the Goodes / racist jibe has.

AW breakfast just aired 'banter' between the AW footy team, including Caro on the day talking about the slide.
Very similar to what Eddie said, wait until you hear it.
Hypocrite much.

Two wrongs don't make a right. All involved should be copping heat over this including Wilson now that the AW comments have been released as well!

You can take a millionaire out of Brodie but you can't take Brodie our of him.
Do you mean Broadie as in Broadmeadows Boys Club? Did sound a bit like that.

Not sure which bit was supposed to be 'funny'.

Take Caro out of the equation, is it appropriate to make comments like this in the media, where young kids are listening? Young kids who copy what they hear and learn attitudes from the media.

It's ok for us to understand that it's a joke of sorts, but does an impressionable 11yo need to hear it?

The variety of responses above, and all over the radio this morning illustrate the complexity of this issue. No one is more media-savvy than Eddie, and he should have known better than to indulge in half-cut pub banter on air. He is too powerful, too influential to have his comments fly under the radar for long.

What I find most objectionable is that he's again exposed Collingwood to ridicule when we're at our most vulnerable, with member numbers down, our coach under siege and the team stuttering towards the lower end of the ladder. There's no point saying his remarks have nothing to do with the club: he's the face, the voice and the heart of Collingwood.

When you're in the media you have to be able to take it as well as dish it out, and Caro deserves to be challenged; but someone above made the point that these interchanges were bullying, and that's how I read and hear it. They were playing the woman, not any particular issue. The problem with Eddie is that his mind is so quick it too often runs ahead of his judgement.

I love Eddie. He's been immense for the club and I don't see how we could effectively replace him. But I wish he'd put a rein on his tongue.
