It looked like he played a defensive role on Rioli for big parts of the game. I was only watching on TV, so those at the ground would know more.
If it is in fact the case, I reckon he did a great job. Rioli started well, but can't recall him having much influence after that.
Can anyone confirm this?
I didn't notice it on TV, but read at least one game report that says he was moved onto Rioli after he kicked a goal in the first. Rioli was very quiet after that. So yep kudos to Matho he did a pretty good shutdown role

So frustrating why the commentators weren't questioning the goal umpire
Correct. The goal ump didn't signal a goal ,had no idea and just said I think it was a goal knowing it would be reviewed. He panicked.

It was so obviously not a goal all this drivel about the decision is doing my head in. That's what the review system is there for isn't it ?

He didn't really. We got slaughtered in the first quarter off the ruck contests until the mids set up better off the fact that we were going to lose most contests after the break. McStay gave an honest contest and stopped Nankervis completely slaughtering us but Nankervis was clearly the better of the two.
It’s relative to their skill set though. Nank should have had a bigger impact at clearance. We still won clearance and that was down in large part to Neale but also to McStay halving the ruck contests and following up better than Nank. That was a win for us. He also kicked a crucial goal on him in the third

Loved McCluggage's game last night. Every time he gets it his first instinct is to be aggresive and move the ball forward quickly, and most of the time executes it very well. Generally he will opt for the aggressive kick foreward rather than a handball sideways, even when he's in traffic. That quick and precise ball movement is exactly what's needed to get through a defensive zone like Richmonds.

Watched the game on TV so was wondering what % of the crowd do you think were Tiges. They made plenty of noise. Bit weird when ur captain gets loudly booed at ur home game lol.
Felt like 70:30.

There were at least 4 large sections of them.

Plus many more spread all around the ground.

One of my work colleagues and her husband are both Tigers supporters, but have Lions memberships.

Also saw Swans, Adelaide, Melbourne and Carlton guernsey’s at the game last night.

i think we can put to bed the notion held by some here that mcstay has checked out for the year though

i thought mcstay's best moment was in the final centre bounce ruck contest where it bounced so clearly in nank's favour towards the outer of the circle it should have been recalled. mcstay ran hard and made sure no tap to advantage or grab out of the ruck could be made and positioned himself afterwards so nank was a non factor and we had numbers advantage around the ball. one of many clutch passages made in that last minute of play

I absolutely don't mean that as a slight on McStay or his effort - he did fantastically to compete as well as he did!

Fan video shows the footy curling around the wrong side of the post. Also shows Harris not even watching, so bang goes that theory too Tigey fans.

The ARC definitely needs to gather all the mobile phone footage for every decision. I don't care if it takes all night we need to get this right

I was interested in how many of our players had not played in a final
Turns out only Wilmot has not been exposed to a final from the team last night

Also Fort has not played in a final and most likely comes in next week

Both Rayner (likely inclusion) and Answerth (possible inclusion) have both been exposed to a final

No they should stick to the incorrect decision out of principal unless all pundits are certain it is a point.

/s

Seriously though it was one of the quicker goal reviews which tells you they were pretty certain. Not sure what the actual controversy even is.

The ARC must have technogy not visible to fans such as the below pic which says why it was decided so quick

I don't know why the narrative is that it cost them the win when there was 2 mins to go and then when Joe gets that goal, there is a still that shows 6 Tigers boys in the square and just Joe, yet Joe gets a goal which really shouldn't have happened. The Tigers need to look in the mirror on this one, not blame the ARC, AFL, umps etc.

I did get a bit sad watching Rich mark the ball just outside the 50m and him knowing he probably didn't have that kick in him anymore (which was proven to be true).
Yeah but then a minute or later watching him drill it 40m to Linc (I think it was him) was just a thing of beauty. Honestly will be really sad when he goes from the game. Just has one of the sexiest skill sets in the game and the game will be poorer when hes gone

Can you imagine the melts if Fages took out Wilmot and Dev for Answerth and Lyons for next week!!!

Can't imagine it would do any better for team morale either ...

There’s a good chance he will. He is pretty loyal, certainly Motty for answerth.

Lyons playing VFL obviously means his not sore.

Last night means more games in the top slots next year - we are entertaining.

Let's just pretend THAT game never happened.

I'd love to get some redemption on THAT game.

Wilmot vs Kozzy for starters. Kid will give that a red hot go.

Even Fagan can't be that silly after he saw what Wilmot adds to that back line.

Answerth as sub maybe.
