back in the 90s when the opposition team midfield used to get on top we used to send Carey down to CHB to steady things, used to do it against the eagles rather well too.... i think Petrie will need to be sent back every now and then.... plus i don't see cox or the palm tree out marking him either..... so hopefully Hansen is good to go this week....

the only reason they beat us last time as we know was because cox played some crazy football.... we cant have Delany in the side this week....

i only dont think bringing in Greenwood is such a bad idea.... but i dont think its going to happen....

I don't know, there are a few options. Is it too late to consider something different in an actual final? Would it help us over the line, or hinder us?

Pederson is the obvious man to come in, because he's so flexible. Can ably ruck and follow a ruckman resting in the forward line, and do a decent job. It'd be a step up on last time, which was.. well, doing nothing about it.

Greenwood has proven a few times he can stop a player and get his own ball as well, so maybe he comes in.

The trouble is, these two guys haven't been in the seniors very much, and thus it's a risk.

I don't want to over-correct our structures to the point where we lose whatever other strengths we had. But something needs to be done. On paper, to me, this all makes sense.

One thing is for sure: Goldstein on current form.. He wouldn't even hold his own around the ground, let alone stopping anyone in the backline. Leaving him by himself is a risk in itself.

Yes i would like to see him in the team....

only problem is.. who comes out.....

changes this week could be
Wells, Wright, Grima, Pedersen....

Garlett, Mullet, LA, Delaney

Need to get off to a decent start, don't let them get their tails up and don't be intimidated. Got to keep the crowd quiet, sow a bit of doubt in their minds, keep up with them throughout the game and hopefully take our chances. We just gotta run run run run run run run...........................we can beat them if we don't shit ourselves.

I wrote on here the other day that Pedo could have been given game time in the Dogs and or Dees games or Lions game or GWS or GC game.

To have him come into a cut throat final compared to the pace of VFL.....well he is better off watching it on the couch at my house....

well most vfl sides are probably better than the dees dogs gws or gold coast.... so probably better keeping him there.... he has been injured as of late though.... i dont think he will be in the side this week....

ow and ur probably too old for him.....

if lynch comes in for the ducks how does our backline match up on the fwds

Grima - Kennedy?
Firrito - Darling?
McMahon - Lynch?
Thompson - Resting Ruck?
Atley - Hill
Jmac/Mullet/Wright- ??

Basti? Gibson, Anthony and Macmillan will need to play two way blinders too.

I don't want to come across as negative, but I don't think tackling is the strong suit of any of those blokes. In fact, our tackling across the board is on the poor side and that is factoring Swallow is one of the best in the league.

It seems unlikely that Lynch and Kennedy will play, but he might need to come in to replace him.
FWIW Hill plays much better on smaller defenders like Atley, but the physical 3rd tall types like Chris Tarrant and Adam McPhee seem to destroy him. Better off treating him like a tall forward IMO (a bit like LeCras)

smaller defenders like Atley

He's not what I'd call "small" SC, at 189cm and over 80kg's. I guess your point is the physicality though. Firrito would be our man for that, although that will depend who else you guys have in your forward mix. He usually goes to a taller player.

If Worsfold's been doing his homework, and if he's a follower of the Ross Lyon school of defence, he'll probably assign a forward to negate Atley's run at all costs, given the drive and spark he provides our side when we're really humming.

Our tackling has been/continues to be shithouse.

So many of our tackles get broken. Needs work, fast.

Yeh I did mean physicality (ie more wrestling types as opposed to runners) but I also didn't realise Atley was that tall.
Could work if he consistently runs off Hill, but one of his strengths is floating third man up across packs. Will be an interesting match up.
Woosha will probably play McGinnity on him though to try restrict his rebounding play.

I think Priddis did a good job on Swallow in Tassy after half time. Helped the Eagles get back into the game.

It had a bit to do with Goldy getting knocked senseless and becoming less effective as the game wore on.

No doubt, they will try to work him over again.

We have to be physically ferocious on Sunday. No prisoners.

I've got complete faith in the coaching staff and players that they'll give a good account of themselves on Sunday.

I'm expecting to see a few tweaks to the game plan and a couple of bold positional changes. We can beat them. I'd like to see us go head to head / man on man in a shoot out. They should be more worried about trying to shut us down because our legs will last longer than theirs.

I'm backing Goldy and Drew to beat Cox and Natnic, Swallow to beat Priddis, Harvey/Wells/Ziebel/Cunnington to beat Kerr/Shuey/ Masten/Gaff. They'll have no answer to our slick ball movement, triple towers and crumbing forwards.

There's an answer to it, get the ball out of the middle.

IIRC it wasn't straight out of the centre in the second half. He seemed to be able to float down to into half forward and kick goals or take marks in defence.

Something has to happen with the overlap; I am not over all the match ups, but ideally Grima has the energy to be a spoiler on Cox, but who picks up Grima's man?

The same overlap issue applies to NicNat when he goes forward.

Ideally it should be Goldy, but 2-1 is an exhausting afternoon.

Without stepping on toes Nic Nat especially was well on top against goldie before Jacob Brennan hit Goldie.
