Its so frustrating that this club after the last decade are still at the same point. Why is it that we can't rebuild on the run, similar to what the pies, and swans are constantly doing?
Its been more than 10 years! The list is different, the staff and management is different, yet the club still stinks of the same sickness.

I thought Carlton were shit before it was cool.

They never do. They didn't play for Ratts either. There's a handful that didn't play for Pagan as well. What makes us think they will play for the next coach?

The players are mentally fragile and it has been easier to get rid of the coach. Well now we have a coach that has developed lists for 30 years and got players playing for him.

These players are damaged goods. I am starting to think that picking out the few players that will give their all every week and getting rid of the rest, no matter how talented, is the only thing we haven't tried.

Welcome aboard ODN

I guess things have got a way of comin around ...

I'm not sure whether anyone has studied this "rebuild on the run" theory in-depth but I'm guessing that any club who has done it successfully already had a platform of established players from which to work from.

Port seemed to turn it around very quickly after Hinkley arrived and Buckley has done a similar thing at the Pies but only after jettisoning some very experienced people in the quest of establishing a stronger culture overall.

I don't think we have the same platform to work from, the majority of players we are pinning our hopes on are yet to rack up 50-games.

One trait of 3 successful coaches at present is being a tough mother! Clarkson, Lyon, Hinkley.. We need a tough hard line coach who won't play players whose cant handle it and will happily let them go. Mick is too much of a daddy to the players... Get angry mick!

This is what worries me today. I have been all for allowing MM to continue the rebuild and ignore the flogs in the media trying to nudge our club towards another mid-season coach sacking for them to dine out on.
But now it's as if the players, especially the "leadership" group are also out to get MM because last night's non-performance was a coach-killer if ever there was one. Apart from a grand final I can't think of a better opportunity to show the loyalty, to coach, the club and the fans - and our players comprehensively failed to deliver.
It just makes me want to vomit - they look like big ******* heroes with a big comeback win against StK last week but given a chance to back it up on the big stage against the old enemy, they totally squibbed it.

Now I don't know what to think. I feel no ******* way, the players do NOT get to dictate who coaches them. They will listen to the coach they're given and damn well do what they're being paid handsomely to do.
But then if the relationship just isn't working, how soon before we do call it?

I think we have no choice but to ride out another painful season, carefully choose our next coach and bid MM farewell and thanks at the end of the season. But I think there are some players too who need to be put on notice that if they don't pull finger big time, their arses are going on the trade table and they'll be leaving too.

Drop a big name. If Gibbs has to play VFL that will send a stronger message than anything we have done for years. If it doesn't work, it's trade time for a few.

Didn't throw him out either ...

I wonder what a Malthouse of 10 , 15 , 20 years ago would have done

He's been blunted by threat of losing his job.

There are a lot of meritorious thoughts about what should happen here. But what are we going to DO?

It's time.

Enough talk. What are we ****ing going to ****ing well DO??

Don't play the man at me. Please. Am begging. What are we doing?

We have to ACT. It's OUR club not Pratts, Mathesons or any of the old brigade.

Unfortunately it is their club, it's their toy and their hobby.

I am not sure what the answer is. My suggestion is that everyone who has posted in this thread write to the club.

Whatever happened to that Ahmed fella and Ryan Trainor?

Ahmed Fahour is on the board. He wanted to be president but apparently his authoritarian style lost him support from the rest of the board. Trainor left after he lost out to LoGiudice.

Start by getting rid of at least some of our assistant coaches and fitness staff who have not been able to do their job properly as once a fit list who could at least handball can't do that anymore.

...SNIP

We need to offload a few of Gibbs, Murphy, Kreuzer, Simpson, Walker., Jamison the trade able currency we have still stuck in our doomsday mindset. Judd, Carazzo thank you and farewell you'll be remembered as warriors of the club. Then we need to get some decent rucks, and some KPP who have strut and are not shy... All kids drafted need to pass an extrovert exam as well...
Gibbs, Murphy, Simpson..? You ARE Kidding right?
Whilst I agree in sentiment about Gibbs, The fact is that Murphy is one of our best and most consistent players. As is Simmo.
I do however, think that making Gibbs the Captain and removing the Burden from Murph, would improve our situation.

I'm pretty sure Gibbs is one who thrives in the Limelight and Murph is hanging on to the Captaincy out of Pride and a sense of responsibility. It's obvious now that Murph's temperament is just not suited to be Captain, whereas this would give Gibbs the Kick up the Ass/Ego massage he needs.

I also think that we've moved on quite enough of our more experienced players for now. I am much more a fan of the idea of a continual 'Tweaking' of our list every year, than the full rebuild. Collingwood and Hawthorn are masters of this. OK, we are going to take a while to come back from this, but I think we have recruited very well since Mick has been at the helm, and I think we will be better off sticking with Mick - not for a flag, but to put the right processes i place to go to the next level.

Hang Tough people.

Fair enough. I dont know enoug about it to say definitively. I assumed a new President/CEO was a fresh start.

CEO is and he shows promise. Still going to be at the whim of the old board culture.

Yeah it wasn't until McGuire ousted most of the old board that shit started to turn around for us in the late 90s early 2000s.

I feel sorry for Paddy Cripps, cause he is going to be awesome but if he stays with us it will be a wasted career cause we will be a shit club for a long time yet.
This is a Sh1t mindset. Cripps may yet get the glory he deserves. If you feel this badly about our Club, why don't you Jump Ship, at least you'll have more peace in your life.

Someone HAS to take responsibility for allowing that creep in the coaches box last night !!
It was a shocking look and says a lot about the people making the decisions .
Surely one person at Carlton thought , hang on , this isn't/won't look right ??
