Didn't think it was a foul on Gabriel, and should have been a yellow for Guimares (VAR can't rule on that).

Apparently Havertz could have been sent off in the first half too.

The ball being out or not, you'd hope technology helped in the decision making. One of the few innovations PGMOL have got right.
Havertz incident looked bad. If that happened before gabriels incident then in effect they cancel each other out

Good morning Woolwich fans.

That’s how VAR should be used, the threshold should be very high to disallow a goal. I thought it was clumsy defending by Gabriel more than being impeded. If the foul was given at the time there’d be no complains because there are hands on the back but I’m ok with that not being over overturned.

The problem is though there’ll be an identical incident next week and VAR will disallow it.

Watching Dermott Gallagher tie himself in knots trying to justify the decision, saying some refs think that’s a foul and others don’t. But if there is a debatable decision, why doesn’t var at least refer it to the on field referee? Why is the var official take responsibility for the decision?

Yes that was amusing to listen to, after all of the excuses he then effectively admits it was a foul.

It's a big problem. We got the benefit last week with the Rodri penalty. I thought it was the right decision but you see those not given a hundred times a year.

This is what happens when humans are involved. I don't see why people think everything will magically be the same

Didnt think it was a foul on Gabriel. In real time it looks alright. In the slow mo it looks bad but that happens with all slow mo. Ball didnt go out. Arsenal just had to defend that situation better.

St James is a tough place to go though so Arsenal cant feel too hard done by.

Haha what a whingy little bitch :D

Could you imagine if what happened to us at Spurs happened to Arsenal, I think Arteta would explode.

He's a weird unit too. He's been in England as he said 20 years or whatever, playing and managing and all this time I still feel like he has no personality. Does he ever smile or joke around? He's like a robot.

Also we are 10 games into the season and he isnt handling the pressure very well haha. I guess he knows to beat City you gotta be perfect.

No charisma, no personality..he’s at the right club.

Is that a piss take? They drew an extra line 2 inches behind the goal line. There was a clear foul on Gabriel too. Look at all the pissy fouls that get given for minimal contact and they don't give one for a two handed shove in the back that leads to a goal.

Havertz should have got a straight red.

Yeah, he made the most of it.

The big doubt for me was whether the ball was out or not.

Gabriel isn’t a wrestler being pushed over by a toddler. People do actually tend to fall over when pushed in the back of the head with a reasonable amount of force lol.

Watching more of Arteta blowing up is not a good look. I dont know what kind of msg that sends to the players. He just blames that goal and the refereeing decisions. But he's said nothing about how two of his players just stopped when they thought the ball had gone out. Play to the whistle. Commitment is needed.

Also if the goal isnt given they still draw 0-0 and draws are as good as losses when you're trying to beat City. He also says nothing about how Arsenal couldnt score a goal over the 90 minutes. He just whinges instead of trying to figure out the real reason they lost.

I'd worry about a defender that isn't capable of standing up against an attacker going for the same ball. If he knew he wasn't going to get the free kick I doubt he would have gone down.

I hope he continues to play the victim.

His post match behaviour has been truly pathetic.

Not in the press conference because that would have been throwing his players under the bus. But who’s to say that he didn’t mention all of that after the match in private?

We will never know, you would hope for Arsenal's sake he did. Cos it was piss poor. They just stopped playing and the Newcastle player could just stroll in and deliver the ball with zero pressure.

Have you ever heard of guy called Jürgen Klopp?

I dont know what kind of msg that sends to the players

You know, I’m pretty sure the messaging in the locker room is a little different from a performative press conference.

Jurg is great. He has a personality. Everyone loves him.

Arteta is behaving like a small child. It's pretty funny though. Bit early in the season for that kind of blow up.
