So clubs that finish up the top get better compensated and clubs that get televised most get better compensated. Wouldn't be good for us just at the moment.

... or we can do what Real Madrid do and own and sell their own TV rights..

------------------------

Real Madrid have agreed a €1.1 billion deal with the Mediapro agency for their TV rights for the seven years until 2012-13 season.

Real's TV rights are presently held by Sogecable, through Audiovisual Sport in a deal which runs until 2008 and is worth around €55 million a year. The new deal will see Real almost triple that figure and earn over €157 million each season.

Publicly-run regional television station Telemadrid also bid for the rights.

Mediapro, an affiliate of WPP group, signed a similar deal with Barcelona earlier this year which was reported to be worth around €1 billion euros. The company then reached an agreement with Sogecable to exploit the rights on its pay-TV platform.

No it wouldn't, but at least it's not rewarding mediocrity, and if used together with the draft and salary cap (which would ensure equal opportunity) it would at least reward the clubs that get results, rather than encourage tanking. We could have set ourselves up as a club back in the 1990s under this system.

Real are a shady business. They have government backing that goes directly into the club's coffers.

I remember reading somewhere that Real do things like buy land in Madrid cheap, then sell it back to the government for an inflated price. So, with any money making idea's regarding Real, be warned, they're unlikely to be as legit as they seem.

So bigger and more popular clubs get a bigger cut, and this will help us how?

Finish higher up the ladder, and get your rewards that way. That's how.
In their case, it's not that fair, as the big clubs just buy better players, hence the gap widens. But if that system applied together with draft and salary cap, it would be the fairest system possible IMO.

It must also be noted that all bar one EPL club is riddled with massive debt. The one being Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are run like a tight ship.

But they don't have the draft or the salary cap, so the financial state of their clubs is irrelevant to our example.

Very true, and I wasn't using that fact to compare it to our system at all. Merely pointing it out. They also don't have a trumped up fixture to artificially boost ratings, crowds and advertising dollars.

I understand your OP's all about an alternative way of distributing the funds coming into the game EH.

Its highly unlikely we'd get the prime time slots that Collingwood, Essendon get, i doubt even Geelong of recent years are even close. They could finish bottom and get 3 times the exposure we would. So we get a little more for finishing higher, but over all the big clubs will always get the better exposure games (on average over the up and down cycles).

We fall further behind and unable to match off field spending, which results in longer down times. This system 'might' depending how its balanced, give us the same as Collingwood if we win the flag and they finish bottom 4. Theres absolutely zero doubt in my mind we're far better served by a 'every club gets the same' system.
