Just saw estava wants to come here on Instagram.

Don’t think his our answer to KPD. Geelong last 2 games were against Sydney & Brisbane. Both teams had 3 z 195cm+ forwards. And even with Kolodjashnij under injury cloud Estava was never considered. Kolodjashnij, Henry & Stewart are all 193cm or under, we’re trusted to play above their height.
He has played half a VFL season in defence. Does anyone know was he any good? Could be just like Lord.
Didn’t make it as a forward because he relied to much on athletic ability. Would take a big strong athletic mark every 2nd week. But don’t remember him ever being a strong 1vs1 marker. Strikes me as a Looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane

Definitely marking is a tick. I think the footy iq and kicking can be covered up by playing him in the backline. This is a trade (if it happens) that we really can't lose and there's a decent chance Sav makes it as a defender. (who can chop out for Hayes in the ruck!)

Ratugolea may only be a stop gap big kpd until we can draft and develop someone else of genuine size, but a big athletic beast like him has to be a better option than watching Clurey and Jonas being monstered by oppo gorillas, which has too often resulted in Aliir having to be taken away from his most effective role as an intercept defender.

If a ball is coming in high and long and you're manned up on Hawkins, you need to be strong, have good length, etc, but you also need to be smart. Body positioning, reading the play and reading the flight of the ball are critical for a defender. Some defenders are ex-forwards that didn't make it up forward, not because they weren't smart or skilled enough or good enough at reading the play, but because they lacked the natural gifts, speed, strength, or marking ability to beat defenders.

So If we get Esava, the hope will be that he is smart enough to be good at positioning his body as a defender. Because everything else he should be able to cover.

I'd rather Aliir, Clurey/McKenzie and Ratugolea to start the year, with it ending as Aliir, Pasini and Ratugolea then seeing 'too short', 'too slow', 'worst kick in' Jonas getting games at all (let alone Captain!).
