Idgaf if he can’t kick or mark, all he needs to do is ensure the similar sized c*nt for the opposition doesn’t get the ball, right?

What did everyone love Dougs for?

Great pick up if we can get him.
I assume Cripper got Bobby and D-Rod to talk to him over the last month.

I was told 5 or 6 days ago we would be looking at getting Ratugolea for a Key Back position so I looked up my old posts because I was keen to get him in the 2016 draft. Josh Jenkins said he has started 1 AFL game in the back lines this year, and played a number of games in the back lines for Geelong's VFL side this year.

I remember his kicking was an issue back then but he was just an athletic monster, was what attracted me to the idea of picking him up but after Attley our next pick was in the late 70's and we missed out. Think he went 45. I quoted Knightmare in the 2016 draft thread.

Esava Ratugolea is the guy. Can't kick. But high flying, strong marking forward who really goes after guys with his tackling and pressuring. Love his intensity and head over the footy mentality. Developable.
......
Esava Ratugolea. With a glut of talented key forwards on that Murray team, Ratugolea while he still gets his forward minutes has played a lot of ruck of late.

He is not tall enough to play ruck, but as a forward having had his 8 goal game earlier this season up forward. He has the talent and is one of those guys with the physical attributes but also the real hunger for the footy and from what I have been told from my contact from Murray he also has the work ethic to go with it
.
I then wote
Geez the can't kick bit is a worry, but he confirms other stuff I have read about him. I then look at this video and just think - yep can't kick can't play football - at AFL level. We dont seem to have great kicking coaches.

Jonas may not be best 22, but he'll be in the team at the start of the year. Clurey and McKenzie will start in the SANFL if we get Ratugolea.

That may look different by the end of the year. Ken has shown he'll eventually drop older players when they're past it, but probably not for either of those players who aren't much younger than TJ. It'll take Pasini overtaking him or some truly shocking form to dislodge Jonas.

Don’t think his our answer to KPD. Geelong last 2 games were against Sydney & Brisbane. Both teams had 3 z 195cm+ forwards. And even with Kolodjashnij under injury cloud Estava was never considered. Kolodjashnij, Henry & Stewart are all 193cm or under, we’re trusted to play above their height.
He has played half a VFL season in defence. Does anyone know was he any good? Could be just like Lord.
Didn’t make it as a forward because he relied to much on athletic ability. Would take a big strong athletic mark every 2nd week. But don’t remember him ever being a strong 1vs1 marker. Strikes me as a Looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane😂

Yeah, I am not sure where this KPD stuff comes from. Ratugolea has played most of his AFL footy as a forward come ruckman. In his 59 game career he has booted 38.32 so straight kicking is not an attribute. The Geelong website refers to him is a forward whose ruckwork is a 'work in progress'. Last season in a Premiership winning club he managed just 4 games which is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Esava may come off if tried as a key defender but that is not a given so I would not be paying too much for him.

Chris Scott really likes him, even though he's been in and out of a strong team. That's enough for me to say he's worth a punt.

Geelong are stacked in any area he could play, he'd be a regular at most other clubs.

Whether he makes it as a backman we don't know but even if that goes south he'd be more than handy cover elsewhere, if an aging Dixon drops off the cliff etc.

Don't shoot the messenger, but while ranting on Trade Radio that Geelong were holding up a number of trades, Matt Rendell suggested that Geelong were valuing Esava as a near first round pick.

must be bs...

Has Geelong poached Dodoro? All of the first-rounders they want are worth less than a first-round trade, and yet a fringe player is worth a first-rounder?

Trade season is just ridiculous.

Geelong want something in return for Esava. They lack list spots this year so any third round pick is going to be unusable for him. Possibly even second round's are going to be unable to be taken to the draft.

A 2023 pick is a different matter. Which Port won't be able to do.

They said on Trade Radio Geelong want a first round pick for Ratagolea. That's ridiculous

Meanwhile they offer pick 38 for Ollie Henry.

I heard that, Rendell made no sense with every player he was discussing....Barrett didn't believe Geelong were after a Rd1.
Rendell sounded drunk.
