I had something like this.
Looks a lot closer in spirit to the original but I think the other version would be better from a branding point of view. I think my only gripe with the current logo is the 'Essendon' wordmark looks quite dated. But otherwise if this is what the club dished up I wouldn't hate it either. I just hope they stick with the Bomber and general shape of the current logo.

Man this is maybe the best example of a modern redo I've seen. this is really well done.

Thanks, it really doesn't take much. I usually prefer more creativity when it comes to rebrands, but I can't see how you could improve the current Essendon logo besides upgrading the wordmark and colours.

Essendon are the only club that haven’t changed their logo in my lifetime. Something about them changing sucks. My childhood is officially over View attachment 2166494
This reminds me of an Auskick game that was on CD rom and you'd kick the goals from all over the 50.

As I got older, my family got way more middle class, but as a boy I remember only being allowed to buy new boots every second season. most of the time I was in (very sick) Nike Tiempos from five years prior. Auskick was essentially free, and I used to be a very good footballer (just one of those kids people would talk about; felt normal to get pulled into playing full back when we were 10 goals up, would get frustrated because I was made to play on the bench. I peaked at about 13) but my dad didn't believe in the Auskick pack. it was waste, tack, useless shit. we weren't tight at all – I'm the sort of bloke to buy a mate an extra pint when he can't afford one more, but the conversation is worth it. but that CD rom really felt like a warm hug.

There was also a game for Milo have-a-go-cricket where I was also somehow good at that despite borderline despising cricket nowadays.

The fuzziness of these logos... everything... life's told me some very hard truths recently and these things remind me of more pure times. they'll never come back.
