Burne City!
AFL Club
Essendon
The members that are not showing up to spite the club, can Go **** themselves, also the members sitting in the stands abusing our own players, coaching staff and club...

Our members are the disgraceful part of this once great club at the moment...

If you guys dont want to stick out the tougher times, dont jump back on when all is going well...

I was devestated too on friday night, but hearing some of the crap coming out of our so called 'supporters' mouths made me more ashamed to be an Essendon supporter than what the boys did on the field..

For the clubs sake and the players sake, put a sock in it. Support the players and show up for the last 3 rounds............

I will be upgrading my Bronze reserve seats next year to High Mark. Just so I can have a better position to watch my side play without responsibility! lol

No seriously, well said. Cant get to the game on Friday night, but that is due to work commitments, been most weeks, but never to do with spiting the club.

Love this club, Ladder position will never determine or alter my affection

Absolutely spot on. If you truly support this club you should abide by this.

Love the post. I'm going to use the St. Kilda game as an example.

When we are up and going, our crowd is one of the best, and i'd say most intimidating going around. We get right behind our boys, and the guys enjoy celebrating to the crowd. And considering we are definately a confidence side, this is very beneficial.
However, St. Kilda kick a couple of quick goals, all of a sudden, whispers go around the crowd. Someone then drops a mark on the wing, and all of a sudden the groan goes around, and all you can hear are mutterings of "Bloody Neagle, never going to make it..Houli, another turnover ... Stanton, trade him etc.."

I'm ashamed to say that i strongly believe we are one of the more bandwagon supporting groups going around. I have very little time for those who have a go at our players when we're going poorly. I have even less time for those who jump back on when we kick a goal or two.

As stated earlier, we are clearly a confidence team. When we are up and running for parts of a game, we look unstoppable. We match it with the best for these periods, for example against Geelong round 1, where we run all over them and kick 4 goals in next to no time. It's great that the crowd can celebrate these times. But we can also help to lift our boys out of the hard times that we always strike in games, and have cost us matches in the past.

The team and the coaches say "we'll take it 1 week at a time".
But for us supporters, we'll take it one lifetime at a time. If you want to call yourself an Essendon supporter, you better damn support all 22 players for all 120mins of every game.

Unfortunately due to illness, I could not attend the game last Friday night. I am totally 100% behind the players and will certainly be attending the last two home games to support the team.

I agree with the OP, the bandwagoner supporters are a total disgrace.

Couldn't agree more. It's a disgrace when supporters boo their own team.

Was also a disgrace Vs Nth Melbourne when Matthew Knights described the Bomber supporters at the game as true supporters or something similar bc it was an away game and we were not going too well. Does he mean that those that are not there are not true supporters.

I disagree with singleing out players and any real abuse in general but i have nothing against thos who choose not to go. If they are not finding it fun and are happy to waste the money they spent on the membership good on em. It's hardly spiting the club.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I reckon the bad attitude of some comes about due to the club being up for so long. I've been following the Dons since 1983 (was a good time to start) and we didn't experience any sustained period of failure (for want of better word) until the last 5 or so seasons.

In our period of success virtually every club bottomed out, and several bottomed out more than once. Even the mighty Hawks of the 1980's and early 1990s had a solid 10 years in the wilderness during our 20+ years of success.

People deal with the lean years in different ways. Every club has supporters like you mention, I just think we have more of them as most will not remember the lean years of the 1970s and expect success when it is not something that just happens. That expectation I believe drives much of the poor behaviour.

I think I have only missed 2-3 games this year, the weekend was one of them. (I had a work gala dinner).
I hate sitting near/in the Essendon members when we are losing. It's so sad. I normally sit in AFL members and there isn't too many bad eggs there.
FYI I will be attending the last three games of the year.

A better outcome would be for the club to realise no one is showing up and cut Knights sooner than later.

Membership is getting smashed by the likes of Collingwood and Hawthorn.

The pathetic performances on field only bring out the die hard supporters. There's only so many die hards out there. The club has to tap into those that need convincing to go. That's how crowds and membership figures rise. Pies and Hawks as an example.

It's quite ironic that you are berating your own supporters for berating the club.

It's simple we've all had enough of Knights and the board and want change. The supporters are voting with their feet and no amount of pleading and spin from the the likes of you and the club will change it.

Viva la revolution.

Supporters don't boo their own team. I believe Knights was suggesting that it would have been hard to find bandwagon supporters at the game, notwithstanding there were a heap who didn't attend, and a heap who were maintaining their divisiveness.

I'll take a leaf out of Knights' book here and give you all a cliche...

You can learn far more from a loss than a victory.

That cliche usually comes from the following two angles, the players' resolve and the fairweather supporters.

Every supporter base has their fairweather supporters, simply look at Hawthorn and Collingwood, their memberships at inflated numbers once there is a sniff of success. When Essendon are successful again, expect an extra 10k-20k supporters to jump on the wagon. That's reality.

Kelvin,

I am indeed berating the supporters that berate the club.. Can you please have a think about the meaning of supporter? Ask yourself if you consider if you are one or not. Same goes for other like minded people.

Once you have done that, please refrain from buying yourself a membership at the Essendon Football Club ever again.

I want you also to explain to me, how you know more about Knights and what he is doing/teaching the players than the EFC board.

If you dont believe in the club and the vision, go jump on somewhere else because in my opinion, morons like you, belong in another set of colours, other than the red and black!

This :thumbsu:.

There's constructive criticism, and then there's bitching and moaning. The great thing about supporting a team through thick and thin is that you really feel satisfaction when a truly great success occurs (poor Fremantle fans). The Essendon Football Club is one to really be proud of, even in the bad times, we'll get out of the "rut" sooner or later, and when we do, it'll be glorious.

Well spoken - he's not a supporter, just a theatre goer, with a few others for company. They pay their money ( although he'd be in a TV room at some infirmary ) sit back with popcorn and coke and take potshots and pings at the coaches, board and players without a skerrick of genuine red and black support.

That's the spirit. :thumbsu:

Once you've identified the other supporters who don't follow your rules then we can weed them out and become North Melbourne. A nothing club with a small band of loyal supporters who'll die off soon and become non existent.

I want you also to explain to me, how you know more about Knights and what he is doing/teaching the players than the EFC board.

Boards, coaches and the like have proven themselves time and time again at how inept they can be. History tells us this. The alarm bells have been ringing at EFC for so long but the pencil pushers are too gutless to make any sort of decision and will hide behind the incompetence of guys like Peter Jackson.

We need people like myself to start the revolution coz this revolution will not be televised. It's a lot easier to sit on your hands and do nothing then watch our great club get torn apart by an incompetent board with the worst coach in our history.

People like you should keep on watching the Might Ducks and take your Ned Flanders attitude back home as this is the real world of cut throat sport where only the strong survive and prevail. We need to weed out the weak and insipid. Matthew Knights is not a leader of men.

Time to get yourself a warm cup of milk and put some milo in it.

Very honest, Kelvin. I agree. As I said at the time, a Hawthorn supporting mate of mine said "the fact Essendon supporters don't put up with performances like that is what separates you from Richmond and Melbourne supporters"... this was post-West Coast thrashing.

We had 2 weeks of riding the emotion of the blowtorch on Knighter and the players and then we turned (back) to shit against Carlton. We can't keep any level of consistency up and we haven't been able to even pre-Knights. We were extremely inconsistent in 2007 and we had a couple of genuine stars in that line-up. Those players outside our top 4-5 do SFA every second week. I'd be happy to name them if nudged.

Yeah, I tend to agree. Your wordsmanship on this ocassion is hi-larious Kelvin! :thumbsu::D:thumbsu:

You need to voluntarily committ yourself; again.

cant goto a game while this pathetic reject of a coach is in charge of our club.. i went last week to watch houli play, aswell as the kids. we are going to be nothing to come, for many many years. So glad the EPL's back, we are only going one way..

I'll put my hand up and say that I left early against Carlton. First game ever I left early. I was just so disappointed at the lack of effort.

But you know what really got to me? The fact I left early. I turned into a supporter that I hate. I usually stick with us through everything. I hate people who leave early and those who sit and bag us. I hate the people around us at Ethihad, who constantly bag Stanton, NLM and Prismall. Yet Friday night I turned into one. I hope it never happens again.

I must say that ive only gone to 1 game this year(freo) due to running my own business.
From going to every game in Melb to running my shop kills me:mad:
But i buy my membership every year and i will do the same next year.
Love my club, regardless of how they are going.
