Essendon players mother remains a mystery - H/S 24/6

He can read it if he wants to.

There is no Essendon player's mother that went on air. That much has clearly come out. No harm in admitting an actor was paid to play the "sook". Good acting it was too.

True to form Pazza you have no issue with playing the dickhead role to perfection.

Mods - yep I know I'll cop an infraction and suspension but had to be said.

Cheers

What player in their right mind would put up with that unquestioningly?

Firstly before I get attacked as a "foamer", I've been on the players side from day 1. Always said they have been duped by Hird and Dank amongst others. All the coaching staff need to get kicked out of the game for life for approving the use of OFF-LABEL, NOT APPROVED FOR HUMAN USE PED's. I have also stated that there is no way the players can avoid infractions. However, I don't believe they will cop suspensions as that falls within the AFL's remit and I think they will give them "suspended" sentences.

The players must have known something wasn't quite right when they were:

  • being used as pin cushions
  • taken off-site for injections

They eventually made their way to the club and questioned the program and they were given consent forms to sign and told by Hird that all was ok. Only that the consent form was to protect EFC and not the players themselves and the players were to stupid to realise this. Dumb arses!

Did they know they were being injected with PED's? Who knows right now. I bet the ACC know and by extension ASADA but ASADA need to get that out of the players themselves. There is still grey around the players and hence I am giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Blokes like Hird, Dank, Corcoran, Reid et al...black and white that they ran a PED program. Some of the coaching staff may not have been a part of it but did nothing to stop it other than voice their dismay.

IMO.

So the only player it could possibly be is Steinburg. He is very much on the fringes and that could see him a little depressed about work. However, his mother lives in a seperate town than him and she spoke of a boy who lives at home. The fact that there was only really one mother it could possibly means that the club could just speak to her and tell if it's her voice.

The actor who did the call stuffed up by putting facts like that into the lie.

He can read it if he wants to.

This is the level of nutjob we are dealing with here and the reason why it is perfectly understandable why she may have wanted her identity kept secret.

We know the club investigated and could not determine who this "Sarah" was.

We know Eddie is protecting his source.

Common sense dictates that either the person shows courage and reveals herself...or is publicised. If it is a player's mother, then so be it. If it isn't, which is more likely, then the call, the person making the call and the person who put it to air deserve to be ridiculed.

And you believe the club?

Imagine if the club did determine the source but were reluctant to disclose it because it painted the club in a bad light.

Because the club has never hidden anything to their detriment before........ have they???

On this one I would, as there appears to be significant doubt as to the existence of this "Sarah" and her integrity.

I know the Crameri family quite well and as far as anyone actually knows, he's still single!!!!

Hmmm..make of that what you will.

I gather you are saying there is no "Sarah" and this alleged "Amanda Crameri" is also fake?

"Sarah" being a fake is not "more likely" at all. Statistically, there are more women in Melbourne who are not EFC players' mothers than are, I'll give you that. But everything about the call, including the belief Eddie and his producer had about putting her to air, sounded real. To make the case it wasn't, you have to come up with an alternative scenario - about who set up the fake and why, or about how some random woman found out enough information to put this performance together on her own - that is at least as believable as the assumption she was real.

A bit like the Thymosin bind your club seems to find itself in, when you think about it.

Can't believe that people seriously believe the AFL retained an actor to pose as a player's mother on radio. Dumbest conspiracy theory ever.

Well they had off site auditions and everything. I heard Lisa McCune wanted the part but she was too famous and would be found out immediately.
I think it will eventually be made into a stage show.

Let's have a look at that alternative.

It's pretty easy to find an unemployed actor these days. You really don't have to look too far.

Then because of Eddie's contacts in the football media, Caro et al have arguably fed Eddie information, which was then used to prep the actor for the interview. So much is in the public domain and was at the time that the potential is there for this to easily happen. Either that or she reads!

Then her acting coach got her to put on the tears over the phone.

The problem with the interview was the unwillingness to reveal who she might have been the mother of.

I'd dispute that. In fact, until someone representing the Essendon FC in an official capacity comes out and says that the club is absolutely certain that the call was a hoax (and instead delegating good old Robbo to fight the good fight), I'm quite satisfied to believe that they don't really know one way or another.

McGuire had a duty to verify that the anonymous caller was legit, based on whatever policies the network has in place (and he could add his own, separate to that, considering such a call is always on thin ice and has the potential to put a serious black mark against 30+ years of experience in the media). If he checked off A, B, C and D (with, presumably, such checks being made in the company of a senior presenter/producer) and it turns out he was stitched up, then it's bad luck and it's probably happened to every journalist at some point. If he just threw her on without making sufficient checks to her legitimacy (or he can't prove that he did carry out his due diligence), he should be disciplined accordingly. If he was complicit (as crazy as that scenario is, considering the associated risk/reward for someone in McGuire's position), I'd imagine his position in the media and as an AFL club president is untenable. It's really that simple.

I don't think the problem lies in the interview, I think the problem lies somewhere east of your western ear and west of your eastern ear.

He prefaced the ph call on air as to saying he had checked as much as he could. And he and his producer had rung her back one time each in the half hr before she was put to air to check her story.

Simple way to find out the truth.
Robbo was challenged by gerard last night to put or shut up.
And being the best newshound in AFL circles,im sure robbo will find the truth.

Damning evidence.

He called her 30 minutes before the interview!

Wonder why that would be...read my comment you just quoted above in answer to H2H.
