NLM & Reimers are at best borderline 'best 22' IMHO.
A (comparatively) pretty strong group of mids/smalls & pretty green bunch of talls.

Scully, Frawley are probably as important for them as Watson & Pears for us.

EDIT: 4 on 0 games each??

I'd say Sam Lonergan has played most weeks during the H&A season. Oh and what about Michael Quinn ;)

That's why i put probable, so hopefully the thread wouldn't turn into a "he's not best 22" etc and why i left out Lonergan although he is also debatable.

Let's not get carried away over Scully just yet as he has a few years to catch up to Jobes output. Not a slight on him though.

Melbourne are missing: Frawley, Scully, Morton, Petterd

I don't think Jonesy will play - he is still listed on our injury list with back soreness but he may start.

I agree - it's very hard when they are presented like this :)

It would be very funny if Melbourne lost this game.

I don't rate our chances of winning at all. There's something about Docklands - I can't remember the last time we beat a Victorian side there.

ditto Pears with Frawley

Best 22 out for Melbourne would be definitely Frawley and Scully, and most likely McKenzie and Morton, and I would expect Petterd to not play

Still no Scully?

Yeah... what's going on with him? Is there a cloud over his fitness? In some ways I hope there is and they aren't benching him re: contracting!!!

Is it just me - or are squads awfully hard to assess when presented like that?

I'd rather the typical 6 lines plus an interchange bench - for some reason it's easier to see the strength of the squads.
True, but it's a bit hard when backmen pop up kicking goals & guys who've been forwards play down back!
Quite a tall squad, with a ruck & 2 talls likely to be pruned

Guessing...

B 20 Slattery 26 Hooker 43Hibberd
HB 31 Fletcher 24 Browne 21 Heppell
C 5 Stanton 8 Winderlich 32 Colyer
HF 6 Monfries 22 Carlisle 45 Crameri
F 29 Davey 18 Hurley 33 Williams

R 30 Ryder 17 Melksham 15 Dempsey

INT(probable): 10 McVeigh, 23 Myers, 39 Prismall, 34 Hardingham, 40 Howlett, 44 Bellchambers

Em: 7 Jetta 46 Jenkins 2 Dyson

Not picked 27 Davis, 1 Neagle.

how long is the game going to go for?

Nearly full length - 17.5 minute quarters plus time on.

Shorter breaks between quarters - the whole affair will be over by 9!

That's a weak excuse already.

Going by all the "experts" on here we're suppose to be a bottom 4 team in 2011 and with our outs should be pumped by your "predicted" 5th-8th team of 2011.

You've had an extra week's break, beat 2 SA teams over in Adelaide (breaking a big hoodoo) and have made minimal changes to your side.

Before seeing our team I predicted us to win by 18pts. Would love that to be the case but can't see it happening now.

Oh you're going to have to play at Etihad during the H&A season too so might as well get use to it now.

lol who gives a shit about NAB cup games ?

I'd say a lot more people do than they care to admitt.

You've come onto this thread to discuss it. That in itself says you care.

40K cared to attend the Rich Vs Carl Vs Coll in Round 1 without the people who rocked up to the other matches and watched on tv.

Scully has a back strain. Reports suggest he attempted to lift a heavy object and popped a disc. His mother, however, was kind enough to pick up his wallet for him.

That is fantastic LOL :)

Seems like Essendon had a stronger team in last week. I'd expect us to win but it is still just the NAB cup. Even with a good team out on the park, the coaches still try different things and experiment a bit. I'm sure if it's even at three quarter time the final quarter will have a fair bit of intensity though.

We only play there a couple of times a year :)

It's just my thoughts - not an excuse - I don't think we will win.

As for the NAB cup comment: I care about it, if Melbourne have a good showing we can get more members and hopefully reach 40k!!!

We had the 1/3 split so we had a squad of almost 40, so yeah.

The first game vs Brisbane we put up a pretty strong side.

Agree on the intensity thing.
No-one would've really been excited at all in the St K game if we'd won (or lost) both "halves", it was only really the close finish which pulled everyone in.
