Freo are pretenders with a vacuous void where their heart should be. Adelaide and St Kilda are destroyed by injuries (Adelaide could name a full team of injured players I think).

they never wake up - even last year where they narrowly avoided the spoon we read crap about how it was temporary hiicup. They honestly believe that they are inherently superior to other teams despite whatever crap they dish up on the field

what i've seen in the seniors over the past 2 years hardly fill me with confidence in your recruiting capacity - 2nd rate kids and washed up duds from other teams is the staple diet

lloyd lucas and mal are all 29... at least 3 years from retirement, fletch is 31 and rarely has a major injury so i would think he would play on for another 3 at least aswell.



Great players all but even if they get 3 years, doubtful at best, they aint gonna be similar to their halycon years.

Lloyd had an injury which can often be career ending and he now plays out his remaining years on suspect legs

Michael big question mark on his committment, looks disnterested to me, may not even make it to next year

Fletcher culd get 3 servicable years, not All Aust years

Lucas has something left in the tank

Essendon needs to spend time on the bottom to rebuild, years I intend to enjoy. The bleating about how Franklin pushed some one in the back on the way to poleaxing your mob just makes it all the sweeter. Franklin creamed you something you guys need to get used to.

On paper, Essendon have:
- The best spine in the competition.
- The best back line in the competition.
- The best forward line in the competition.

It really annoys me when unknowledgeable kids post crap predicting Essendon to finish in the bottom four again this year.

So I was right.

As for the second goal, where "Fletcher didn't do a whole lot wrong", did you notice that when Buddy was wheeling around, Fletcher was on his arse after losing his feet in the contest?

Partially.

Considering Franklin didn't have to recover in the first one you can't claim that he recovered better. The only way it wasn't a mark was because Franklin dropped a sitter and then he recovered uncontested and slotted it. It wasn't Fletcher's fault that he kicked that goal because he can't help getting pushed in the back.

The second one was great play and I can't see how it can be stopped. Fletcher went to ground, looking to smother the ball down after going with Franklin on the lead. Some how the ball ricocheted off Fletcher's hands and into Franklin's. I don't know how it happened and on any other day I would've expected Fletcher to get away with it.

The basis of my argument in the Franklin case is that there are days when no matter what you do as a defender, you can't stop a guy kicking goals. Franklin did some great things and got away with a bit. I can't see how any of those goals you can say Fletcher did a poor job of defending. In Franklin's second 3rd quarter goal perhaps you might have a case saying he shouldn't have gone to ground buty he still got hands to the ball and it was only through a miracle that the ball ended up in Franklin's hands.

Isn't that's what they are going through now ? They've finished towards the bottom for 2 years, now and this year should make it 3. Where a club is well managed and financed, that should be enough. The key is recruitment during the down years. It'll take a few more years before the quality of those recruited since 2004 is known. The pre 2004 recruits aren't going to take Essendon to a flag but that doesn't mean that they can't finish mid table over the next few years.

The so called 'bleating' is only making a case for Fletcher not having done a whole lot wrong on him. I'll admit any day that McPhee's job on him was horrific but when the Fletcher move was made, I think Dustin did a pretty good job. Of the 4 goals Franklin kicked on him, there was a large degree of luck in at least 3 of them.
