Clement was sh1te in the finals series.....was ridiculously out of touch, turned the ball over repeatedly.

Best players in the PF were T.Cloke, Swan and M.Clarke

Best players at afl.com.au:

Collingwood: J Clement, M Clarke, H O'Brien, T Cloke, N Maxwell, D Swan

rnd 21 v Sydney - fighting for a spot in the finals
rnd 22 v Adelaide - simple solution for Adelaide, win and play finals, lose and miss out

And that's why you lost to Adelaide.

You played Melbourne, Richmond, Carlton in the last 5 games.

You got smashed by Brisbane, lost to Richmond and Adelaide yet had the fortune of every other team falling over just at the right time. ;)

How many teams have beaten West Coast in Perth in a final in history??

West Coast were missing Judd, Kerr, Cousins, Hansen

If we are talking luck(like the other poster mentioned) then you should look at your own backyard.

I don't know if Knights will be any good or not and I haven't said anything on the subject but I can see why people would have doubts. Even as comparred to Rattan there are 2 main differences.

1 Rattan played finals and premierships whereas Knights came from an unsuccessful club that couldn’t win a chook raffle for virtually his whole career.

2. Carlton wanted Rattan – admittedly after Voss pulled out. Knights was a late choice after other options dried up.

It is true that their AFL senior coaching careers are virtually the same. I recall Richmond supporters had the same attitude as yourself about Frawley after his unsuccessful stint at Collingwood reserves after his long career at an unsuccessful club.

Nothing is conclusive yet of course but it is all about credentials. Sight unseen Mathews on day 1 had great credentials. Then again Tony Shaw had good credentials and even Mathews believed that.

as has been discussed ad nauseum, Paul Roos didn't exactly come from a successful culture; and Knights may not have been the first option, but he was the best candidate at the end.

The point is, as you've noted, it's an unknown. The guy needs to get a chance to actually coach before being written off.

Obviously this is BF, so I'm not surprised by dullards, but to claim Knights is a weakness is just wrong. He's an unknown, not a negative

He shouldnt have been named in our best because he wasnt. It was definitely his best game of the finals series, because his other two were terrible.

He retired, sadly, because he thought he couldnt give any more to the club. Our 2007 success was achieved without signifcant contributions from Clement and Buckley.

Interesting also that O'Brien and Maxwell were also named in the best. They are ready-made replacements for Clement, showing we have a succession plan in place. Maxwell is even a genuine captaincy candidate.

You played Melbourne, Richmond, Carlton in the last 5 games. .

Melbourne were finallists the year prior. So were Adelaide - top four, if I recall correctly, and premiership favorites at one stage. Sydney played in the GF. Richmond finished ninth. Pretty tough run home based on the 2006 ladder.

Unless you are Harry Hindsight theres no way of telling whether a draw is good bad or indifferent. You can only base it on the previous years results.

AFL.com is rubbish, they had Buckley in the best in his return game!

Clarke, T.Cloke, Swan were our best

Clement no where near his best in that game.

And that's why you lost to Adelaide.
We lost to Adelaide because we had no motivation, were assured finals and couldn't get top4......you said we played teams 'who had basically packed it in', so u were wrong.

You played Melbourne, Richmond, Carlton in the last 5 games.
Yep, Richmond hadn't packed it in as they beat us
Melbourne hadn't packed it in, as after Johno's unfortunate bump the dees players were all fired up.

Carlton the only team who had packed it in as u put it.

I'd prefer Scotty Burns for a year and then Heath Shaw in 2009. But yes, he's a candidate, and he's on the short list.

after getting screwed outta the Copeland the least u could do would be give it to Lockyer

He is a candidate.

He is a member of the AFL players association executive committee

The members are

J.Bowden - Pres
B.Burton - VP
A.Goodes
L.Power
T.Harley
R.Murphy
L.Ball

Decent company that Max is keeping within AFL ranks!

That should appease everyone.

Also on the short list.

if he doesn't get it after his 07 year it would an outrage, he played like he was your captain in the absence of Bucks and Clement he deserves it more that burns who would retire end of 08 anyway

We have plenty of quality candidates, and we have plenty who played fantastic in 2007. He wont get it, in my opinion.

The great thing with giving it to Burns is that it gives our younger players a chance to be made long term Captain - blokes like Pendlebury Shaw and Cloke who are no chance in 2008, might be ready in 2009.

Can someone remind me where most people thought Collingwood would finish before the 2007 season ?

If I remember correctly the general consensus was that they would finish 12th-16th.

You would think they would be the last set of supporters to be predicting a clubs demise before a ball has even been bounced.

But what the feck was that based on?

The pies finished in 5th with 14 wins after H&A, missed top4 by %.

They had a poor final against the dogs who snuck into the 8.

For some reason the dogs were touted as potential top 4, and the pies were supposed to drop away??

There was a perception out there that C'wood were fairly average and had got the most out of their ability to make the finals that season.

That perception spread quickly and very shortly everyone was predicting their demise in case they looked stupid if they did finish in the bottom four. If you predict the same way everyone else is predicting then its hard to be made to look foolish.

Same thing is happening with Essendon. There is a perception that they are too slow and there is not enough depth coming through. Some people have pencilled them in for the bottom four so now everyone is doing the same thing.

The truth is the top eight fluctuates wildly and basically I would not be surprised if any team made or missed the 8 (with the exception of Geelong missing).

We've had that every year since about 1930. Thats not perception, its just hatred.

Even in 2008, after missing the GF by a kick, nobody is seriously considering us a flag chance.
