Eugene Arocca - Walked or pushed

Jumped before he was pushed, I reckon he could feel JB's hand in the middle of his back so he jumped.

Perhaps by doing so he's exposed some big problems within NMFC that have been hidden or brushed over for too long.

JB owes the members a proper explanation, not the pissing up our backs and telling us it's raining crap we've been fed for the past 24 hours.

JB needs to lift his game because if the reports are correct he doesn't fulfill a lot of his Chairman commitment by attending sponsors function or a lot of the game day functions leaving things to Eugene and O'Hoy primarily and that's not good enough.

He is portrayed as aloof and not totally committed to North relying heavily on his brother to keep things moving. There was an example reported by Caro that instead of attending the clubs game day function with sponsors and corporates he was doing the ore show on MMM. I mean I though he gave up his media commitments when North play. So the question is, as perception is 9/10 reality, is JB really committed to the role, it appears not at the moment.

So no more media on North game days and no more cross dressing, we don't need to be embarrassed any further.

I would like to know the reasons the board had for not extending his contract. As a member, I think I have a right to know, don't I?
I agree with OS, we shouldn't jump to conclusions until we know more, but given what we know and many of us have been hearing stuff coming out from the club for some time, the words "boys club" have not been invented by Caro in this case. Usually, where there's smoke, there's a fire.

I always liked Eugene. He was passionate, and seemed to be the central reason for many of the club's off-field achievements.

However, if (big if), reports are correct, then my estimation of the man has lessened.

Below is qualified by an obvious lack of knowledge of what actually happened. ((ie) If there was some kind of real skullduggery, or if Brayshaw shagged his missus, or if he was pushed, then no blame)

However, if the reports are correct, walking mid season stinks!

If you are CEO, you are on a contract. That contract will expire. Your contract may or may not be renewed. Whetehr your contract is renewed is within the discretion of the board. You participate knowingly.

For whatever reason, if the board indicates it will not automatically renew your contract, even if it says it will renew DMac's, FFS, cop it on the chin like a man, and finish your tenure.

Don't chuck a tantrum, walk out mid season, go to the press, kick up a stink, all in circumstances where on field we are mega on the ropes, the coach is under fire, and we desperately need some semblance of stability.

If that is the kind of spine you have, the fo.

That said, if he had a good reason that I don't know about, or if he was pushed, please disregard rant.

I'll be interested to see who is up for election for the board at the end of the year. I won't say it was the wrong decision not to extend Eugene's contract, but with closer examination there are some hard questions to be put to the board.

Sad to say it but with what is happening on and off the field we have a culture/leadership problem at the club. It may be time for significant changes post-season off the field.

This is dire. Eugene didn't walk for money or glory. He walked for reasons related to the way he saw the club run.

That was how I saw it yesterday.

Walking mid-season doesn't smell right and the 'ease' with which EA and North have parted company doesn't sit well with me.

Regardless, I was hurting more yesterday than after the loss against the Hawks.

Euge has done a splendid job in his 5 years and is a contributing factor as to why I get the chance to support the Royal Blue and White every week of the AFL season as 'North Melbourne'.

Eugene was great for us and he committed to us lock, stock and barrel. Until the reasons for his departure emerge, I'm not thinking of changing my avatar.

WTF is going on down there?

I think he was going to get his marching orders/not be offered a new contract. Spin to make him look better got out first but reading between the lines it looks like his job was on shaky ground.

The financial result of last year couldn't have been good for him.

Now let me get a grasp of whats going on.......
1.Arocca wants an extension, but he doesnt get it or boys club were reluctant.
2. Dmac´s contract is up for review, and he gets it because boys club fear we´ll miss Dmac jnr playing for Nth Melb?
3. Arocca turns dirty cause he´s a professional leaving no stone unturned, striving for excellence @ NMFC and sees DMac as a weakness in the football dept. Wants him out.
4. JB being romantic about it, chooses to side with DMac but loses creditability in the process adding to many other short comings that JB has.

This is the info Im reading, is this correct before I make my judgement??

A very sad day for the NMFC yesterday with Eugene Arocca resigning as the CEO. I have nothing but admiration for a guy who worked tirelessly for this footy club and was for mine the face of what has been the regeneration of the club.

So what the hell went wrong?

Whatever happened I think its clear that he spoke with Patrick Smith and used the story as a reason to walk. The real question is why did he feel that way.

Oh, and to those inner scrotummy types, now would be an opportune time spill the beans. Our club is in crisis and we are not being told why. It is our club and we have the power to change things if need be. If there is some bad shit going on at Arden St. then we deserve to know.

All the best Euge. Your work will never be forgotten.

Ironic or what !!

That's my understanding.

It shits me that posters are taking pot shots at the board and pres when it was us, the members that voted them in. I'm a fan of Eug but I fully support the actions of the board and pres. C'mon people, get behind the club!

My reading is that the Board was gearing up to replace EA at the end of his contract but weren't up front about it i.e. we are going to the market and you can apply. EA choose to walk. There will be many other steps leading up to this point some of which have been aired (e.g. DMac) and others that we are unaware of.

Therefore in answer to the thread title he was pushed and the Board is happy.

Without being within the 'inner sanctum', I've got no idea whether EA has failed to meet, met, or exceeded board expectations in his role over the past however many years. Certainly the majority of articles/comments we've had access to have generally been glowing in terms of his performance. New facilities, stronger administration, player payments etc. All that crap seems to have been righted since he's come on board. Once again, no doubt the result of a 'team' effort as opposed to exclusively being due to EA or JB or any other bastard at Aegis Park.

So, if he's exceeded expectations, I suppose it's reason enough for him to expect a contract extension? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe JB and/or the board have got somebody else in mind? It wouldn't be the first time unfortunately where our President has committed to having somebody waiting in the wings but subsequently failing to deliver i.e. our Corporate White Knights. As far as I'm concerned credibility can be lost just as quickly when these types of scenarios continue to arise - and this is before dressing up in a Mankini or as Wonder Women.

It all stinks and puts a halt to all of the off-field momentum gained over the past 4-5 years. It needs to get sorted out and quickly. Especially given we've all dipped into our wallets this season to eradicate this outstanding debt, only to sit back and observe a seemingly incompetent or narcissistic board worry feathering their own nests.

Hope I'm wrong and it's all under control.

If someone can take some time to explain to me what happened yesterday I'd appreciate it, I'm not really following...

  • There was an article from Patrick Smith that raised some questions, what was the gist of it?
  • According to the official story, JB only became aware of EA's disappointment when he read this article?
  • EA has been unhappy at the club for some time now?
  • Did EA resign before or after JB visited him at his home?
Does that actually matter? You're sounding like an unsatisfied journalist.

Could someone please explain how Donald McDonald being refused a contract extension impacts on North being able to draft Luke under FS rules? Surely North still would have been able to get Luke without Donald as football manager?

Why think when you can just formulate a lazy conspiracy theory and pass that off as wisdom?

From what i understand, and please correct me if i am wrong, Luke would have the option to either come to north on the father-son or nominate for the draft where he could be chosen by other clubs.

I believe what is being inferred is that keeping Donald would basically secure our chances to seal Luke with the Father-son pick.

Break Up's aren't easy haha 4.5 years service and it ends like this. Could/Should have been handled much better.

What could the board do if they weren't going to re-appoint EA and he put them on the spot?

Could they have handled the matter any better?

Only thing that doesn't add up is why the reluctancy to offer Euge an extension? From all reports he has done/was doing an excellent job as North CEO?

Other "reports" are that he was not the optimal man going forward.

From an outsider looking in it's cronyism vs professionalism and professionalism has lost out.
