Ever left a game early and regretted it?

I feel really self concious and judged getting up and walking out early. Obviously that's short lived and once you're out of the stadium and free of the depressing situation going on inside it's good beating the traffic.

Side note, how ****ing horrible is the stench of cigarette smoke replacing fresh air when you leave a game with the crowd. Is there anything more invasive and in your face?

I wish they had a smoking ban on a large outdoor area around Optus stadium. Absolute pigs making everyone around them breathe in their smoke and then they leave their mark by dropping the butt. Actually that's unfair to pigs.

1987 prelim.

The old man wanted to beat the traffic.

That Stafford/Everitt game was 2003 from memory.
That happened because Everitt was destroying Richmond at the time with his tap work and around the ground stuff. Had 2 goals to his name by that point as well. Stafford smacked him and changed the course of the game. Pretty sure we had Rawlings or Holland have to ruck the rest of the game and they just took charge everywhere and steamrolled over us.

Nope, only one I’ve ever left was the pies v tigers 2018 prelim. It was traumatic and I couldn’t deal with the USA chant. Only like 5 mins left to go though.

Left the Eagles/Melbourne game early last year after lightning sent the players off the ground midway through the 4th quarter. We were down by about 6 goals from memory in the rain. No word of when play would restart and after 15 minutes of waiting we headed off.

Started hearing updates on the train and about the Eagles making a comeback and all of the fans on the train didn't know whether we wanted the Eagles to win or lose.

Never regretted leaving early, but plenty of games I've regretted not leaving early enough.

Once the game is beyond doubt it's far better to catch an earlier train to crack a few beers open at home or head out to a bar.

Can't say I have ever felt guilty about what is ultimately good life management.

Didn't leave the game, i just switched the channel for 15 minutes and cracked the tom **** last Saturday against Port Adelaide after they kicked 8 goals in the 3rd Qtr. I switched back on believing this is a different team this year and sure enough they held firm. I almost went home from the MCG in 1999 at 40 points down against the Roos at halftime, for some strange reason i resigned myself to a defeat and stayed just to see how we went against the best side in it at the time. Cats won by 6 points in the finish. I bought hot donuts on the way home and scoffed the lot down!

Never for Essendon. 2018 GF, nearly twice, pies going mental early, was thinking “nup, getting 1990 vibes “ W.Coast slowly reeled them in. Then the start of the last, degoey , starts doing his thing, the noise was insane and I was edging to the exit, and then....

You must have drunk a lot of home beer over the last two decades…

Nah at the end of the day I agree with you. Especially if I’m at the footy by myself, no point being stupidly stubborn

I was talking to an older former co-worker one day and he was telling me about how he and a group of friends from high school went to the 1965 WAFL Grand Final to support their team the East Fremantle Sharks against Swan Districts. East Fremantle had been beaten by Swans in the 1962 and 1963 Grand Finals, and the previous year's GF complete outsider Claremont Tigers kicked two goals in the final minute of play to turn an 8-point deficit into a 4-point premiership victory over East Fremantle.

For the first three quarters, Swans were in complete control and led by close to 4 goals at the final change, kicking with a strong breeze in the last quarter and the 1965 premiership looked a foregone conclusion. The group of teenagers, not wanting to see their team lose four Grand Finals in a row three of which were to major rivals Swan Districts, left the ground at three quarter time, hanging out in Subiaco instead. Then curiosity overtook them to see how much East Fremantle had gone down by, one of the girls turned on her transistor radio to check the scores, only to find that the Sharks had kicked 9 goals to 2 in the final quarter against a the breeze to completely over-run the Swans and claim the 1965 premiership by 24-points.

I went to the Essendon Vs Hawks game on Sunday, and noticed when the Hawks got to 16 points that some Essendon supporters around me got their bags and headed for the exits. I was imagining their faces when they were leaving when they hear the Bombers got up, and it got me thinking.

I tried to leave a Richmond VS Hawks game in 2002 as a 10 year old. The Tiges were down by 51 points at half time and I was nagging Dad to leave, he refused.

Greg Stafford then broke Peter Everitts jaw and the Tigers went on to win by 20 points. I was stoked dad didn't listen to me.

So, have any of you left a game early and regretted it?
I remember that game well. My best mate who is a 40+ year member left at half time, We'd been to just about every Richmond home and away game in Victoria for years and years, always staying to the bitter end. This is the only game I ever remember him leaving early, poor campaigner.

I never leave live games early unless we're being beaten by more than 5 goals into the final quarter, and that hasn't happened too much prior to this season.
Corey Enright's 300th and the 2017 qualifying final would have been a couple of the rear occasions you've abandoned your club before the final siren I venture.

Any dees supporters have a mate they want to dob in tonight?
Last night required a bit of negotiation with an unhappy and anxious 12 year old to stay.

Agreement struck that we would leave as soon as the siren sounded.

After the win I asked if he was happy he stayed. All I got was “I feel a bit better.”.

Left at half time when Hawks were down by 7... Against Sydney Rd18 2014

Couldn't stand the thought of seeing Buddy/Sydney win and their cocky supporters
