I think you have missed the point if the previous post by Pokerspiv Banana .
You hit the nail on the head .Let me explain if I may .
We had injuries last year that should have ended our season but for one reason .Pavlich or the lack of Pav .
Because he was injured we used our head and lowered our eyes .Walters and Ballantyne became first choice options and very good ones instead of Kepler and Pav all we had was Mayne whom nobody outside of Freo fans rated him at all .
The bullocking work was done by Silvgni , Mayne and Griffin created space for the little guys to run around in and score .
Sandi went downs ,Griffin carried the mantle and as luck would have it Griff went down and Clarke put on his cloak and a new super hero was born .
By the end of the season we had SUPER HEROS to burn except on the LAST DAY IN SEPTEMBER .

So far this season it has been the reverse of last year and Pavlich is back as well as Sandi in great shape but the support crew took a wrong turn .
We have had a very hard landing so far this season and we are running out of SUPER HEROsss
I RECON
Its all Clarkes fault he got injured first even before the starting gate opened .
He didn't even make it to the race track then Gumbelton and how inconsiderate was Barlow doing his Knee so early in the season never mind Walters .
Bloody Hell I was worried his knee wasn't going to stand up for the season ,I didn,t even think about his ankle .
Bloody FYFE has to give a good hip and shoulder and 2 F##king weeks holiday what was he thinking .
Bloody Sylvia comes over here flags flying he's waving to the crowd Hail the messiah and BLOODY HELL , ROSS says give him a fitness test .
Well that was the end of him what else cam go wrong .
Here we go again MAYNE WTF another ANKLE , and to top it off rising star Simpson does a DUMBY SPIT across 3 STATES NO LESS .

Well all I can say is What can possibly go wrong with the rest of the season ,I mean its be a whole 6 weeks isn't that enough

Hang on minute did someone say hold the presses there's more '
Hannath has gone with a right cross ,Morabito has been charged for rough conduct ,Vandeleur has been charged as well all in 1 game of WAFL
Dawson Johnson and Sandi MRP and this all on 1 weekend of football and both teams lost Holy Crap where's a Prient ,a Rabi ,A Monk and don't forget the Mullor or what ever they are called . Did anyone buy a Lamb .

Wow

I just feel now that so many other teams have improved and we had to as well. But have gone backwards.

Last year it was only really Geelong hawks and Sydney to contend with

This year we have port, Roos, , collingwood, Gold Coast all doing well, and even the lower teams are doing better. GWS beat Sydney, bulldogs are doing better. Hell Melbourne put it up to Sydney this week.

I think right now in total honestly the expectation should be to try and make the 8. We are so far off top 4 no matter top 2 form and we all know that's where flags are won from.

If we lose MJ and Dawson next week looms as a tough one to win and the following two are harder.

If we are 6-3 we will be facing an uphill battle. Hawks, Geelong and Port will not lose many games and we have a few to make up to catch them.

Early blunders may come back to haunt us later in the season.

I pray that I am wrong

Please do not jump me as this is my OPINION

That means the season will be more even , like 2010, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 1997 etc.

I think people don't realise how much the 2 x expansion teams have distorted the competition.

This year they look to be able to hold their own and even it up a bit.

We are a very good side when we have all the players singing from the same song sheet but they have been very unsettled and playing that way .
The season break can't come soon enough for RTB to settle them down .
I will say though that when we have Barlow back in the midfield and Ibbo back in the backline we have a very well balanced side that can win games .
If Walters can play in say 12 weeks time he will have a huge impact .The boys just have to hang tough and we will play finals .

Im surprised people are talking about top 2/ top 4.

Im firmly of the view/like Lyon that the past counts for nothing- we should be looking to just make the 8 and then go from there. I've got confidence that on any given day in September we have the cattle to challenge all teams. We just need to get there first.

I don't think its disaster if we don't make the 4 - i feel we can still do some damage from outside it if we peak at the right time. Finals experience is an intangible of which we have a bit of now. I'll only really declare our season a disaster if we miss the 8.
It's not impossible, but in the absence of evidence of the contrary you should assume it is highly unlikely. Or in other words, get your hand off it..

A bit of respect to Port and the Cats would be worth maintaining. We should've beaten North just like we should beat anyone: because if Freo play at their optimum, which happened a lot last year, they can topple anyone. But people need to remember how good Port are, and at home, and how well Geelong are travelling too. And this Fremantle side is coming off some poor losses, a deflated gameplan, shocking execution, and total flatness. I reckon the Eagles are every chance to topple us in all honesty.

I would lean towards us being 3-6 than 6-3. It'll be somewhere in between but if we're keeping this as a binary...

Good post.

And I agree, I have high respect for both Port and Geelong. I thought Port would be a strong chance for Top 4 after they beat the Crows. The last month has only confirmed this potential. But that doesn't change the fact that Freo is still a strong club, we will improve performances, and being just 5% off can lead to a loss (as Port found against North).

The thing that might help us is that the competition across the board is genuinely tightening up. By the half-way stages you'll get a couple of teams creating a bit of separation, and a bit later the bottom teams will start going into tank mode. But until then it's tight as. Hawks and Geeolong (usually) look a step ahead, but the rest pretty tight. I think that will keep positions 3-10 very close well into the season, so a bad few weeks may not be the death-knell it's been in the past. Having said that, either way you look at it we're not going well. I posted somewhere 'bout the place that Roos fans should be confident because they were meeting us at a good time - well that proved right. I can't see that changing in a hurry.

We'll be 4-5, maybe 5-4 if with a bit of luck in another 3 rounds. Then things get a touch easier and we might come good. But gees, it really is hard to gauge because you can see the machine is there, ready to fire, its just sputtering due to a few factors - but it could fire up at any moment ... or it could just stop all together.

If we are going to scrape the 4 we are looking at 16-6 maybe 15-7. This season is certainly closer but the top 3 are on another level, the level I thought we'd be at.

Its a scary thought looking into our forward line. No walters, Clarke cant play forward, simpson had a hissy, kepler and gumbleton still injured. Then a few smalls that have no afl experience, you cant be relying on these youngings during a premiership window.

Probably a good time to adjust my expectations I guess, but I think I'll remain hopeful a little longer. Always knew its a tough start to till the bye.

Losing to North in the way we did is not pretty, but then, we had so many critical outs it's always going to be a struggle. I see us losing our confidence and mojo after Sydney, a team that was supposedly down at that point but nevertheless a strong team, as I'm sure they'll show later down the season.

We just need to buckle down and play each match as they come, the way we had last year. A win against the eagles and port may be the confidence boast to get ourselves back on track.

We still have quite a few exciting guys waiting to burst in from peels after the bye. Hopefully, Ballas start staying out of trouble and Kep, Apeness or Griffin can come in soon to cover for the gap Gumbly left.
Mora, Sylvia or Josh may not cover for sonson's flare, but hopefully they can provide some offensive options that will free up Pav.

The midfield and defense is still good. We just need to score reasonably and we should be back on track.

Maybe I'm being delusional but I still believe things will start to click in place and we'll be playing up to the high standards we had last year.
