Sydney dont get people going to their big events, wouldnt bother with it.

Plus the whole losing 100 million every year its held would be a bit of a dampener. Albert Park is as dull as most Tilke circuit.

nup! fantastic. both for quals and on the day of the event. record attendances speak to it.

Record attendance has very little to do with the track itself, otherwise you would have had them all through the events history. Which is has not.

As for proximity to the city, you cant get any closer than what Adelaide was.

record attendance has a lot to do with the track/event. anyhoo, it will never be in adelaide again and melbourne has it locked away for yonks.

Event yes, track no. It's not even debatable, you can count the memorable races in Melbourne on 1 hand and most of them were due to changeable conditions.

I don't think anyone suggested it was ever coming back here, but we can always dream.

Now there is a man who had personality.

Brought through some of the sports biggest names, even prior to his time in F1. Wasn't a bad driver in his own right.

Vale EJ

Blah,blah, blah…
All wanting Adelaide back on an article that has the absolutely worst street circuit in the world at#4.
And your justification is that Adelaide might, yes might because of the size and different aerodynamics of today’s cars, be better for overtaking?
Yet they consider the track that you simply cannot overtake at #4?
What a joke..

Excellent rant.

None of it made sense, but kudos for trying. Of course those of us who were alive and were old enough to remember Adelaide GPs want it back.

And it's because of the size of the cars that it WOULDNT work.

I remember Martin Brundle asking him once on a pit walk "Eddie why are your cars so fast this weekend?" To which he replied "Because you're not driving them anymore!" 🤣

I reckon that was on tv somewhere last weekend

Murray Walker has such an endearing way of pronouncing the “Georgedons”

Go well Eddy

loved those benson and hedges jordan's when i started watching late 90's early 00's. didnt realise he had cancer. **** cancer.
I listen to the FFS podcast with DC and Eddie, great listen, highly recommend. But yeah recently he's skipped a few eps and DC has had other guests on, mentioned we wish Eddie all the best etc. He was on this week's but I don't know how pre-recorded that was.

Eddie was open about getting checked early in one of the eps late last year, spread to his pelvis and spine. Must have really accelerated toward the end.

He was great.

He said a month ago he'd received good news about his prognosis.

Hard to believe that would have been the case.

without even really doing a deep dive, Melbourne has had some absolute crackers in dry and wet conditions. Had a few dull years at the start of the hybrid era but both the first decade of Melbourne and recent times have been fantastic.

Dare I say it more than Adelaide. Adelaide had the championship showdown factor and had plenty of 'moments' but if Adelaide was the first race of the season would we be going on about how crazy Schumacher taking out Hill was or Mansell's tyre failure?

That being said, 2014 takes so many points off as I remember standing at Turn 2 for the hybrid's first laps thinking "what the hell is this sound?". And those phallic noses

1999 - Eddie Irvine's first win
2002 - Barrichello up their Cazaly, Webber's first points
2003 - wet/dry epic
2005 - Fisi's first win, entertaining mixed up grid race
2006 - so many things happened, Alonso vs Kimi, Button's fiery engine on the start/finish straight on the last lap
2009 - the whole Brawn first race story
2012 - very good race, top 4 finished within 5 sec of each other

23-24-25 were all cracking races
