How can you prove it's legit?
Great question, you can't. And the evidence provided above by yourself and Gibbsy, proves that its not legit. To the naked eye I thought it was all good, but the number, no sponsor

If you are ever in doubt with a jumper you are buying make sure you do your research. Even ask somebody on here.

I was watching a doco the other week & apparently 50% of signed merchandise around the world is actually fake.
I'm not saying the signature in the link is but just do a bit of research.

Hey guys,
I am the seller of that Fitzroy jumper. Good point about the sponsor on the back. This one came from a seller who got it directly from Sekem, so I am guessing that the back sponsor may have been added to the guernseys at a later date as Fitzroy tended to change back sponsors almost every year after they started appearing on the jumpers around 1994. The reason I advertise it as player issue is because the Fitzroy monogram is stitched onto the jumper, as opposed to the heat pressed felt monograms that appeared on all of the replica guernseys. Therefore I deem it to be different from replicas, just like how player issue guernseys these days are of a different cut and material than the replicas. In regards to the number it looks to be the same as all of the numbers that are on the other Fitzroy match worn jumpers in my collection. Happy to provide more details on the jumper if there are any further doubts about its authenticity.

Thank you for getting on the front foot viclion17

As you will admit its a grey area & many people selling stuff that claims to be what it isn't.

The point you raise are valid & I retract my statement & will remove my original post.

The also point you raise about buying the jumpers from a reliable source make you point also valid.

My apologies

All good mate, happy to clear up any doubts.
It is tough to distinguish between authentic and fake items with the old woollen jumpers as everything is sewn on.
I have seen plenty of fake Fitzroy jumpers around recently and having them floating around in the market does devalue the authentic ones to an extent

What's your definition of a 'fake' Fitzroy jumper? One that hasn't been made when Fitzroy was in the AFL?

The Fitzroy Football Club still produces Fitzroy jumpers and sells them.

Yes, but made to look like it was made when they were in the AFL.

I would consider something like this to be a fake jumper(sorry for the live auction but it's a fake):
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MICHAEL-...rt_AFL_Memorabilia&hash=item2ec8173af7&_uhb=1
It is an attempt to copy the old VFL jumper and has the VFL patch added onto it.
Definitely would not consider the jumpers from the Fitzroy shop to be fakes as they are made by the club directly and can be classified as official reproductions of the old Fitzroy woollen jumpers.

When you bought it did you get a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) ?

Looking at photos of Fitzroy in 1996 on aflphotos, it looks like they played most of the season with sublimated guernseys (the FFC logo being sublimated, the sponsors logos are still stitched on patches). Perhaps it's a 1995 player issue with the Centenary badge and no back sponsor logo.

Yes, I think towards the end of the season almost all the guernseys were sublimated, whereas at the start of the season many players still wore the woollen guernseys. I've got a match-worn pre season guernsey from 1996 which is sublimated as well as a heritage jumper from the same season which is also sublimated. I would say that there was probably a set made of the woollen guernseys and then another set of sublimated guernseys made of which most players ended up wearing by the end of the season.

yup fake.

a few things that stick out to me.

- the stitching on the side of the jumper
- how far the back of the sash comes onto the front
- samsung logo isn't centred, it overlaps the middle of the jumper
- adidas patch is normally sublimated on
- the blue in the afl logo looks too bright.

Last time the Bombers wore Samsung front and back, the sash was curved
Also the back logo should be bigger

That one is actually real, i know as im the guy selling it haha, bought it from an AFL store, i noticed the samsung is way too far over to the centre it is a kids size jumper so not sure if that has anything to do with it. Anyone know if there were mis print ones at the time?

List it as a misprint jumper with your proof I bet someone will buy it!

i like where you are going with that, its something that always irked me, knowing 95% of everyone i know wouldnt have the slightest idea that anything was wrong with it, but it always annoyed me, purchased purely to wear to a fremantle essendon game to piss off my freo mates haha
